HOUSTON – Texas senior receiver Collin Johnson (hamstring) has been ruled out for Saturday’s game against Rice at NRG Stadium.

Johnson had been dealing with a nagging hamstring injury through the week and was limited. With the 12th-ranked Longhorns’ Big 12 opener versus Oklahoma State on tap next Saturday, the team opted to rest Johnson against the 0-2 Owls.

Expected to be the team's top wideout entering his final collegiate season, Johnson currently ranks third in receptions (7) and yards (108) and is tied for third with one receiving touchdown.

Johnson’s absence should open up more opportunities for backup X-receiver Malcolm Epps. The 6-foot-6, 245-pound redshirt freshman has one reception for four yards on the year.

As reported earlier this week, safeties B.J. Foster (hamstring) and DeMarvion Overshawn (back) will also not play due to injury.

Texas-Rice kicks off at 7:05 p.m. and will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network.
