All the measuring, poking and interviews are done but Saturday it starts for real. One of the center's of attention is Longhorn Marquis Goodwin. He is likely to break the long jump record and is attempting to break the 40 yard dash mark as well.

Goodwin is also expected to impress in the broad jump after finishing 10th in the long jump at the London Olympics this past summer. The broad jump at the combine is slightly different than the long jump in the Olympics. At the combine, the player must jump from a stationary position and stick the landing. But Goodwin still has high expectations.

“The jump is a big goal of mine, as well,” he said. “I'm looking forward to it, as well as all the other tests. But broad jump especially -- the record is 11'5”.”

The electronically timed record of 4.24 seconds from Chris Johnson of the Tennessee Titans will be a tough mark to best.

When asked how fast he wanted to run in the 40-yard dash, Goodwin kept it simple: “Really fast.”

But just how fast?

“One of the fastest times, if not the fastest,” Goodwin said. “I want to run the fastest ever; that's my goal. Chris Johnson has the record at 4.24. That's my goal.”
Goodwin, whose best time in the 100-meter dash is 10.09, said he has matched the 4.24 40-yard-dash mark during practice drills. But more important, he's looking to impress in the positional drills. The former track star says he's a football player first who just happens to run fast.

“I've proved that I have more than just linear speed,” Goodwin said. “I have good hands, I run good routes and get out of my breaks. I can run other routes than just the ‘9.' I'm tough, can take hits and block.”

Marquis is in the QB, RB, WR group and they are scheduled to do their drills and running on Sunday.

Update: Here's a link from the NFL Network of Flash's 4.25 in the 40.. http://tinyurl.com/b3gfyjq .

Damn, they have already run? I barely have my coffee:mad:

Just read this Tweet:

"@nflnetwork: Mayock says 'several scouts' for one team clocked Goodwin at 4.19 (unofficial). #NFLCombine":)

and this Tweet from ex Cowboy's scout Gil Brandt:

Gil Brandt ‏@Gil_Brandt

For the record, I had Marquise Goodwin at 4.17 and 4.19 in the 40 at #NFLCombine. It didn't seem like he was running hard. So effortless:cool:

Damn this dude is fast. Regardless of which team he lands with I will be a fan, pulling for him. Love this kid.

We completely misused this guy for 4 years. Just terrible. No wonder we are barely .500 the past 3 years.

Every time I see him succeed I think the same thing. We have taken so many great players for granted. Can we fire Mack now?

LEt's hope the lesson has been learned and we aren't saying the same thing about Daje in 3 years.

According to the practice reports over on hookem.com, Daje hasn't been coming off the field much at all during the first 2 practices. I think Major will do a much better job of using Daje and his speed that Harsin was able to use 'Quise and DJ and Daje.

Applewhite has it going on and we could be looking at the next Texas head coach. I know he's young but he connects with the players and seems to have a good football brain.

Major has been my choice for the next head coach all along. I think it would be a great choice.
