FORT WORTH, Texas – It was a sloppy game for both teams, but the Lone Star Showdown between Texas and Texas A&M on the hardwood ended with a 60-50 victory in favor of the Longhorns.  Junior guard Jase Febres led Texas in scoring with a season-high 17 points, and redshirt sophmore Andrew Jones added 12 points and 5 assists in the winning effort. With Sunday’s win, the Longhorns hold an 8-1 record – the best start for Shaka Smart as head coach at Texas.

At halftime the score was 27-17 in favor of the Longhorns, but the Aggies managed to get within six points late in the game.  Texas never relinquished the lead.

The Aggies didn’t have a scorer in double digits, but freshman forward Emanuel Miller grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds and scored eight points.

Texas A&M shot 47% from the field and committed 21 turnovers. The Longhorns shot 41.8%, including 31% from beyond the arc, and hit 83.3% of free throws.

The win at Dickies Arena marks the sixth time in seven games the Longhorns have defeated former Southwest Conference and Big 12 rival Texas A&M.

Texas will host Central Michigan next on Saturday, December 14th.

Andrew Jones played really good defense in this game after being called out for not playing D, which was good to see.

Kai Jones is a player to watch, lots of upside for this FR.

Sims has to start playing better and remember he's a big. I saw a couple of times where he got an offensive board and instead of going up, he kicked it out. Then the one time he should have kicked it out (late in the game with ~1:30 to go) after a rebound, he takes a contested shot, misses and aggy gets the rebound.

Nebo for aggy did finish with 16 pts and was a presence in the paint. He had all 3 blocks for aggy. He's also the only player on their team I'd take if he transferred.

I saw on texaggy that some were saying this was the best they have seen aggy play this year. That's how bad they are.

The difference in Kai Jones now and Kai Jones when the season began is night and day. Kid's going to be a star at this rate.
