It is terrible what is happening at Penn State with the sexual assault allegations against a former defensive coordinator. What is worse is that the AD and another individual were aware of the complaints and did not tell law enforcement officials. I have nothing but respect for Joe Paterno but I hope he had nothing to do with this. It would absolutely tarnish a legacy that would live forever.

My understanding is when Paterno learned of the allegations from an assistant coach who saw the creep with a young boy in the shower. Paterno said at the time the AC gave him no details and he passed the information on to the AD, but he never followed up or called the authorities. He is facing many questions why he never personally pursued the matter or called the authorities. Plus the guy went on to victimize more children for over nine years.

Yeah, I know. The weird thing is Sandusky continued to coach there after this incident. Not judging by any means but it is extremely odd that the coaching staff would continue to be around a guy that did this.

Looks like Joe Pa's coaching career may finally come to an end. I just don't see how he can weather this shit storm.

Honestly, I am not sure how much coaching he does now. He is a figurehead (was a figurehead) and I doubt he was going to be back next year. In light of this mess I am not sure he will even coach another game (including this weekend's game against Nebraska). It is really hard to understand how this went on after the incident was witnessed. Sandusky had 8 foster children at home too. You do not simply tell a person that it happened and continue to allow the guy to travel with the team, hang out on Campus, etc. Plus, what in the hell was a 10 year old boy doing in the showers at Penn State? They are all guilty for letting this happen. Normal folks would have made damn sure Sandusky was reported to the authorities and that he NEVER stepped foot on the PSU campus again.

Sadly Joe Pa's iconic career means nothing now that this information has been brought forward. I am disgusted by it.

If this pervert was allowed to hang around the program for another hour after this allegedly happened then the entire Penn State administration is guilty, Paterno included. They should all be ashamed of themselves.

I'm just really upset to see Joe Pa go down like this. I was pissed when FSU pushed Bobby Bowden out the door and now to see the everything happening at PSU is just disheartening. I just feel like it takes away from the magic of college football when iconic coaches are forced to step down because of controversy. Now Joe Pa will go down being remembered as the guy who kept a sex offender on his staff instead of one of the greatest college football coaches of all time. It's just wrong.

He announced his retirement which will commence after this season. How awful it had to end this way but there is no other way to do it.

Joe Pa said he was not told details and I agree with him. The thing I just read is a local DA declined to prosecute..All that being said, it is time for Joe to go..He spends half his time in the press box and just sad that he was brought down by this sick bastard.

Sad to see Joe Pa's career end on such a shitty note.

I have to agree with bbdude, I don't think Joe has coached in quite a long time.

The photo of Joe Paterno stepping out on to his porch with his wife beside him crying tells it all. These young kids that are rioting and flipping over cars and vans have no idea what they are doing or why they are doing it. It is a sad scenario all the way around and I have a hard time thinking Penn State will put up much of a fight this weekend against Nebraska. How are these kids supposed to get up and play with any passion after this debacle?

This will have a long lasting effect on Penn State from both an academic and athletic perspective. This is sleazy no matter how you look at it. People forgive trading tattoos for memorabilia but they do not forgive nor forget child molesters.

I find the fact that Paterno transferring ownership of his house to his wife 4 months ago for $1 to be sad and pathetic. What in the hell has the world come to? Paterno was a staple in the world of college footbal - a leader and pioneer.

From a NY Times article:

Lawrence A. Frolik, a law professor at the University of Pittsburgh who specializes in elder law, said that he had “never heard” of a husband selling his share of a house for $1 to his spouse for tax or government assistance purposes.
“I can’t see any tax advantages,” Frolik said. “If someone told me that, my reaction would be, ‘Are they hoping to shield assets in case if there’s personal liability?’ ” He added, “It sounds like an attempt to avoid personal liability in having assets in his wife’s name.”
I am disgusted by Joe Paterno and obviously the entire Penn State administrative staff. Joe should have acted like the man we all thought he was and do the right thing. Inexplicable to say the least.

Just playing devil's advocate here but maybe he transferred the house to avoid losing it in a lawsuit. It in no way says he was guilty of a cover up. Everyone will lawyer up including the victims. Just the way it goes when this much money is involved.
