It's Now All But Official That Charlie Will Be Back Next Year & Contract Extended

The two greatest Longhorn coaches since I have been a FOOTBALL fan have been Akers and Brown (my fandom began during Royal's final season at 5-5-1).  Here are their final three seasons before being fired::

Akers:  7-4, 8-4, 5-6 (the season previous to this was 11-1 and a fumbled punt away from a NC)
Brown: 8-5, 9-4, 8-5 (the season previous to this was 5-7 and created the hot seat)

The ONLY question IMHO is whether the decision makers believe that three seasons is too early to fire a Head Coach.  I would submit to you that the decision has already been made baring some extraordinary event.  Judging by what has taken place on the field; Strong is gone.  However, it may be declared that three seasons is simply not a large enough sample with players Strong has recruited.  If that is the case they already know this; they already know what will happen.  Any "evaluation" after the season is manufactured for our consumption.

I really don't know what to think will take place at the end of this season?  My guess is that Strong will run out on the field for Game 1, 2017.

huh?

I'm a nobody. I've always been a nobody and will die a nobody. Why would any "decision makers" manufacture anything for nobodies like me?

I believe the media will manufacture a ton of misinformation for our consumption and their viewership, but as far as the head honchos at Texas. They'll put out a statement or two and could care less what I think about it.

not that anyone cares what my opinion is... :D

Don't think for a minute that the head honchos at Texas won't manufacture misinformation.

It's very possible that all the consternation and hand-wringing after the KSU loss where a lot of people thought Charlie was as good as gone was put out there by the head honchos as a "trial balloon" so to speak. And it wasn't to see what you and I, or anybody else on this board or any other board, thought about it. Think way higher than us "nobodies".

I am also starting to come to the realization that Charlie will be back for 2017 but with what changes and what promises. The season is not over with yet, so still this story will continue until that time has finished.

hookemhorb,

Let me give you a hypothetical to explain what I was saying.  Coach John Doe starts the season at 2-5 and AD Joe Blow is asked about his status.  JB answers, "We are not even thinking about that right now... we will evaluate after the season is over."

I call B-O-L-O-G-N-A on that.  They have a pretty good idea right now what will take place.  Decisions are made during the season, and they are "finalized" after the season (unless you are LSU).  If a firing is to take place, indirect contact is made with potential replacements, etc during the season.... ducks are put in a row so to speak.

I would submit to you (with zero inside information) that Charlie will be back next year, and the decision makers already know it.  For a plethora of reasons, they do not want to fire him after only 3 years.

My opinion.... probably worth about as much as yours hkmhorb....
