Last night on the Orange Report with Big Mike and Justin, I told the story of Nate Boyer and how we at HornSports want to be involved in sending my favorite Longhorn and a true American hero a package. He and his company are currently deployed in harms way, and whatever we can do to help is our goal.
This whole thing started on Twitter. I choose this picture as my Twitter picture.
I got a new follower, and when I looked to see who it was, I recognized the name. I sent a tweet to Nate telling him how I proudly have his picture to honor the Longhorn and his service to this country. What followed was a series of tweets and private messages
I approached him with the idea of sending the guys a care package. He said it would be awesome and gave me an organization, Caring for Camo, he works with.
This morning I have been in contact with Sarah Smith, who listened to the Orange Report and heard our conversation. She is there to help. I want us to help their efforts, and I will update this post as I get more information.
If you are on Twitter, I urge you to follow @CaringforCamo .. @SASmith_UT .. and of course @NateBoyer37
Update: One
I have been in contact with Sarah Smith, thanks Justin, and we are working out the details of how to donate $$$ to Caring For Camo. Here is what Nate said was his wishes..via Sarah by email:
So I've talked to Nate and his request is not to have items sent for him, but rather for the children in Afghanistan. Things such as little toys, candy, etc. that he can give to them while passing through the country.
Here is what he said:
"Stuff for the local people, the children of Afghanistan who don't have a choice. Who play in the garbage and sewage bc that is their closest thing to a playground."
When I get a link for donations I will post it here.
Update Two
I have the link to Caring For Camo.
http://www.caringforcamo.com/donate
You can use pay pal or a credit card. When you donate your $$$ use the special instructions and put in For Nate and they will apply the money to Nate.
I encourage to also enter the leftover money to use as they will?
Sarah suggested we put an end date on donations. We choose Memorial Day. Seems appropriate.
I started the drive with the first donation. The rest is up to you?
