Dorm life is over for the Texas Longhorns. On Sunday, two weeks after reporting day, the Longhorns moved out of Jester East and back into their regular dwellings according to a team source.
Some players will go back to their off campus housing, which under head coach Charlie Strong only juniors and seniors who have met certain requirements will be allowed to live off campus. Strong said recently that some players who were living off campus hadn't met certain requirements to earn that privilege but that the school was unable to buy out the leases of those players.
“I've been here for five years and that hasn't come across our minds,†Jordan Hicks said on Friday during Texas' SiriusXM College Sports Nation Camp Tour with Mark Packer and Houston Nutt. “I took as much stuff from my apartment as I could. I tried to make it as comfortable as possible.â€
Hicks also mentioned an element that hadn't yet been known.
“You don't have a car,†Hicks said. “They took your keys. They took everything.â€
While the beds were uncomfortable, the bathrooms communal and the hallways cramped, the players felt like the time in the dorm brought them closer together.
“Some of the guys will go to the player's lounge and play pool or hang around and talk,†Hicks said. “It really has brought us close together.â€
