I don't understand how of all people University of Texas fans don't realize that "winning" in February means very little.

Has Auburn recruited anywhere near Alabama? Has Oklahoma?

Contrary to the belief on the numerous meltdown threads, coaching and winning is a cure all.

Charlie Strong has been our coach for 3 weeks. He's actually done a good job with the class considering all of the factors. The messy divorce from Mack, the longstanding relationships with the other schools and these recruits vs Charlie just meeting them for the first time, etc.

Lose Otaro Alaka? Plug in Kolin Hill or Edwin Freeman

Lose Zaycovean Henderson? Plug in Poona Ford

Lose Nick Harvey? Plug in Jason Hall

The sky ain't fallin' folks. Let's see how these kids develop before anointing aggy's or anyone else's players and recruits as "better" than ours. Kevin Sumlin is the new Coach February? Not until he averages 9-10 wins for a decade.

Keep the faith and Hook 'Em!

I agree. While the news wasn't good last night, it didn't lose us a national championship or ruin the future of our program.

Moreover, we should come to expect more commits to take visits from now on. We were spoiled because Mack didn't allow it. Mack isn't coach anymore and Strong may take a different approach. That's just the way it goes.

And we can't lose Harvey. He's an ag commit. If we did get him it would just be an incredible job by CS. I doubt it thought.

Shrug..Don't care..I don't want any player that had rather be in College Station than Austin.

Sorry, I just don't get worked up over losing one player. I'll judge Strong's recruiting ability when he's given a full year to actually establish relationships instead of a couple weeks.

I saw this pattern in the 80s. When it shows up on the field, it may bother you more.

This trend is in the wrong direction whether y'all want to admit it or not.

If it happens again next year, is it time to be concerned then?

I think the worst thing Charlie did was insist everyone live on campus. The Strong manifesto is going to be a problem going forward.

That stuff worked in the 60s. Today's kids are not going to respond to that.

Amen! For how long have we lamented that we need a coaching staff that wins titles on the field rather than recruiting titles? We have the opposite of Mack Brown and we need to be patient. It's not a bad thing if we lose a few recruits that want helicopter rides, neon uniforms, and country club atmosphere.

I was hoping this board is more level-headed than OB. It's Strong's first month in Texas. Most of these "flippers" have had multi-year relationships with the other coaches in Texas and they are just getting to know this staff. He needs time to establish himself. Don't freak out.

You've always been one of my favorites, GetHooked, but it's too early in the game to call this a trend. Again, he's been here, what...three weeks?

If this is still happening next year, we can discuss it.

Exactly.

Strong is a proven developer of talent and a proven coach. We are going to be a very, very good program in a relatively short period of time. And it will be sustainable because of its foundation. I don't see the Ags total reliance upon "SEC, SEC, SEC" as being sustainable at all. Once the novelty wears off they're just Mississippi STate II and not just because they wear the exact same uniforms.

this!

Hey guys don't give the aggie posters the satisfaction of getting under your skin Texas is going to be just fine. CS has brought a good coaching staff and some even better recruiters. Lets give CS a chance to settle in. MB took up some visits time that CS really needed. My friends y'all have a great week.

Part of the problem is that we live in an age where grown men can spend their days on message boards dissecting what exactly a 17yr old boys tweet 'really means'. Overreaction is inevitable.

All we can do is try and be a little less reactionary and understand that recruiting is more than a two or three week process - and that this coaching staff gets more than one very abbreviated recruiting period to prove itself.

I think i'm taking a break from message boards until sanity returns on or after NSD. all are unreadable. the same people go from board to board to board posting the same stuff verbatim.

There's an element of our fanbase that takes "whine" to new heights. I get it that there are some who post here that just don't like the Strong hire, because he's NOT Nick Saban or one of the sexy names that was being tossed around. There are others that don't like him because of their own agendas. That being said, he IS the UT head football coach, and he has NOT been on the job long enough for anybody to reasonably predict whether or not success will follow his hiring. The entire coaching staff has just been replaced...anybody who didn't think that there would be fallout with this year's recruiting class is either naive, or doesn't know very much about psychology. We talk about kids committing to a school, rather than a coach, but mostly, that's just lip service. These are seventeen year olds...they form attachments to certain coaches that influence their decision on where to go to school. If the coach moves on, the kid is likely to as well. The sky is NOT officially falling until at least next year, which is my way of saying nobody can judge the recruiting chops of this new staff until they've had at least a year on the job, and a chance to get to know Texas high school coaches and players. Life is way too short to spend it getting your panties in a wad over something you have absolutely no control over.
