The Texas Longhorns won’t be playing the Texas A&M Aggies anytime soon on the football field, but that won’t stop the two from competing on the hardwood.  The Longhorns will face the Aggies on Sunday at Dickie’s Arena in Fort Worth in the Lone Star Showdown.

These two teams met last in the Bahamas in 2015, with Texas A&M defeating Texas 84-73 in the first round of the Battle 4 Atlantis.

Shaka Smart and the Longhorns are off to a 7-1 start with their lone loss coming on the road to the Georgetown Hoyas.  Texas defeated UAB at home 67-57 earlier in the week. Redshirt sophmore Andrew Jones tied a career-high 20 points and hit 6-8 from three point range in the win over the Blazers. Jones is averaging 12.4 points per game, second only to junior point guard Matt Coleman (13.8 ppg).

Texas A&M has lost three straight, including three straight in the Orlando Invitational over the Thanksgiving weekend. The Aggies lost to Harvard, Temple and Fairfield and head into Sunday’s contest with a 3-4 record. Junior guard/forward Savion Flagg leads the Aggies in scoring with 10.7 points per game and 14 assists. Senior forward Josh Nebo follows with 10 points per game and 5.3 rebounds. Nebo ranks second as the nation’s active leader in career blocks.

Aggie head coach Buzz Williams in his his first year in College Station after spending the previous five seasons at Virginia Tech, where he guided the Hokies to three straight NCAA Tournament appearances.

The Longhorns have won five of the last six against the Aggies and Sunday’s contest will mark the second time the two schools have played since Texas A&M joined the Southeastern Conference.

Watch what Texas Basketball players have to say about playing Texas A&M:

Texas up by 10 at the half--27 to 17. Both teams not shooting well. Another Texas team that plays down to the competition.

Baker played a few minutes, good dunk cutting through the lane for the pass.  However, can he please stop chucking 3s?  He hasn’t made one this season, and we don’t need him to shoot from outside to make the team successful.  7 footer, quit camping out on the 3 point line and get some damn rebounds inside.

Well, we did cover the spread.

We never shot well enough to get aggy out of their zone, which kept us from driving effectively to the basket.

This goes into the “a wins a win” category.  A pretty poor effort against one of the worst Aggie basketball teams I’ve ever seen.

Do we have anything in the playbook other than jacking up 3s?  I know, I know... we are 8-1.

I went to the game. Ags are terrible and I wasn’t impressed by the Horns. They bust their butt on defense and look good when they get out and run but in the half court it’s pretty brutal. High screen and roll is about all you get for any movement on offense. I really wish they would run some type of motion offense.
I hope they continue to improve as they head into conference play.

And just for the record, even the crowd was kinda meh. Not much excitement in the building from either fan base.

Is that arena home to any college team, or is it simply an events center?
