Shaka Smart and the Texas Longhorns (3-0, 0-0) will host the Prairie View A&M Panthers (1-2, 0-0) on Friday evening, just three days after their home win over California Baptist University.  The matchup will mark just the second time these two programs have met on the hardwood, with the Longhorns defeating the Panthers 110-38 in their first encounter (2005). Friday’s contest is the second of two Regional Round games at the Frank Erwin Center as part of the Empire 2K Classic benefiting Wounded Warrior Project.

Junior forward Jericho Sims notched his first double-double in the win over the Lancers (11 points and 11 rebounds). Sophmore guard Courtney Ramey tied his career-high in points (19) in the victory.

The Panthers won their season opener 100-62 against Jarvis Christian, but lost consecutive games to Central Florida (73-69) and Texas State (75-48).

In their Tuesday loss to Texas State, the Panthers shot 18-of-51 (35.3 percent) from the field.  Junior forward Lenell Henry led PVAMU in scoring with 10 points and five rebounds.

Prairie View A&M won both the SWAC regular season title and the SWAC Conference Championship last season.

Sooooo...I know it's early in the season but perhaps Shaka just needed the time (and recruits) to get this thing right?  Imagine that...

I agree with you. "it's early in the season".

I like what I've seen so far but let's see what they do with better quality opponents. They need to get to the dance. The NIT should never be a goal for Texas basketball.

Very early. We've them start this way before. Last game they looked terrible, but great vs Purdue. Still so inconsistent.

I agree.... Big 12 in particular.  However, Purdue on the road was a big league W!

This team still tries too many 3 pointers. And they still suck at it. The offensive sets seem to be emphasizing driving towards the basket a bit more, but ultimately this team doesn't seem too much different from last year's.
