The #22 Texas Longhorns take an undefeated 4-0 record into Madison Square Garden on Thursday night to face the Georgetown Hoyas in the Championship Round of the 2K Empire Classic benefiting Wounded Warrior Project.  Texas defeated California Baptist and Prairie View A&M at home in the Regional Round of the tournament, earning a spot at #22 in Monday’s newly released Top 25 Poll.

Texas and Georgetown have met twice before, splitting wins, with the last matchup coming in 2012 at Madison Square Garden as part of the Jimmy V. Classic. The Hoyas won 64-41.

Georgetown  is 3-1 overall this season, and defeated Georgia State 91-83 on Sunday in the Hoyas’ Regional Round of the 2K Empire Classic at Capital One Arena.  Sophmore guard Mac McClung led Georgewtown in the win with 25 points, and senior Omer Yurtseven recorded a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds.

Matt Coleman III posted a game high 17 points in the Longhorns’ win over Prairie View A&M and freshman guard Donovan Williams notched a career-high 13 points.

The Longhorns will face either No. 1/1 Duke or Cal on Day Two of the Classic (Friday).

Texas doesn’t crash the boards.  They’ll lose the rebound margin badly and lose the game.  Same story as the last few years.  Poor coaching.  Seems to be a common theme among UT men sports

This thread drew a lot of interest.
I was watching the game thus only posted at half time. The Horns shot well in the 1st half but went cold in a stretch in the 2nd which hurt.

Interesting stat of the game, Horns were 9-10 from the FT line (all in the 2nd half) while Georgetown was 21-28. There was one replay where Hamm was pulling down a board and Yurtseven came over his back, hammered his arm and the ball went out of bounds. The call? Hoyas ball. The Horns started getting some calls but by then the damage was done.

I know I'm biased, but the zebras didn't help with last night's game. Admittedly, our jump shooting in the first half with no presence in the lane didn't help the situation. But still.

Disappointing.... but came back strong against Cal.  This team has potential to be Shaka’s best one at Texas.
