Weather forcast for Austin at game time: 67 degrees and a chance of rain
West Virginia has never played in Austin but their head coach
The two schools have not met since 1956, when West Virginia defeated Texas 7-6. Although WV has never played in Austin their head coach but head coach Dana Holgorsen has faced the Longhorns four times in his previous stints as an assistant coach and offensive coordinator for Oklahoma State and Texas Tech.
But the most interesting Texas-West Virginia connection is Mountaineers cornerbacks coach Daron Roberts — who’s from Mt. Pleasant and graduated from Texas, but did not play college football. The 2001 graduate pursued government and politics after UT, including a stint as an aide to Sen. Joseph Lieberman, but caught the coaching bug when he worked as a coach at a Steve Spurrier football camp at South Carolina.
Roberts wrote more than 150 letters to head coaches and defensive coordinators to more than 50 colleges and every NFL team seeking an internship and eventually landed one as a training camp intern with the Kansas City Chiefs, working as a volunteer for Herm Edwards’ staff before getting hired in 2008 to help with the defensive backs.
There is a major buzz about the game and Ticket City has the game as one of the top tickets for the week with Tickets starting at $99. However, it will be short lived as they have tickets for the Red River Shootout going at $149-$329. Note..highest this year is the Oct 13th rematch of Alabama v LSU with tickets going from $384-$770.
Mack Brown is 1-0 against West Virginia. His North Carolina team beat the Mountaineers in the 1997 Gator Bowl. … West Virginia has won three straight games against ranked opponents, including last week’s win over Baylor, which was ranked 25th. … Breaking down the Mountaineers’ offense: West Virginia has run a total of 304 plays this season — 181 passes, 123 rushes — averaging 53 points, 441.5 passing yards and 157 rushing yards a game. Seventy-four first downs have come from passing plays, 33 via runs.
Game Line: Texas 17...Texas -110....The best pick of the game IMHO is the Over/Under 75 points..Give me the over.
