Former UT baseball player Andy McGuire to finish degree at UT

HornSports has been informed via a source that Andy McGuire, who transferred from the Texas baseball program to the University of South Carolina Aiken in late July has decided to transfer back to the University of Texas and finish up his degree in Austin.

We were told that things were going well for Andy at Aiken in his short time on-campus and on the field in South Carolina.  He was playing shortstop and even came to the realization that he would likely get drafted (again).  During his time at Aiken, McGuire did some fairly deep introspection relative to his future and the role baseball would play in it.

After two surgeries that left residual effects and the reality that his body would have a tough time holding up in a 162 game schedule in the pros, McGuire made the tough decision to leave baseball and focus on his degree - at The University of Texas.  He talked with many of his former teammates from Team USA as well as former Longhorns that are currently playing minor league ball about his situation - the consensus was that he was making the right decision for his future.

Our source told us that Andy is already back in Austin and is excited about the future and is looking forward to focusing on his degree and life beyond baseball.

A good move for Andy to make the decision to pursue his degree at UT. I'm sure it was difficult to walk away from the game, but we all have to at some point. Good luck to him in his academic endeavors.

I would think no scholarship since he enrolled at the school in SC. At least no athletic money. He may have some academic or something, but I don't know. I think once you enroll and attend another school, the first school's obligation ends.

Sounds about right, I didn't realize he had been gone this long. Also, his scholly spot was most likely filled already.
