Texas has released the depth chart for the New Mexico State game. Notable in that oft injured and less than reliable Anthony Fera will start at punter and kicker, as well as Ashton Dorsey missing from the DT rotation. Yes..you see Case McCoy over Tyrone Swoopes, for the moment anyway. Appears Mykkele Thompson gets first crack at replacing Kenny Vacarro, and Steve Edmond has managed to retain the starting MLB spot....at least for now.

3 freshmen listed on the initial 2-deep depth chart:

  1. WR Jacorey Warrick
  2. QB Tyrone Swoopes
  3. G Kent Perkins

Ashton Dorsey is not on the depth chart.

Jaxon Shipley is listed as an either/or with John Harris (who Mack praised in his presser today).

More to come.

Austin American Statesman says Dorsey has been out for a week with a strained calf. Wait on someone else to confirm it before you take it as gospel truth, but would explain the absence.

And no Overstreet. WTH?

Proud of Jacorey though. Love that kid.

On Overstreet - they need to play him or I fear he will transfer. Not fear, rather KNOW. #PLAYJO

Agree Overstreet will play but special packages.

A few reports of Dorsey being out with calf strain, hope thats all it is and he plays decent his last year on campus.

Somehow Mack likes having 12 starting positions on O and D.

Some observations.

Russ could not earn the starting Punter job.

Perkins at RG instead of Tackle and also listed b4 Riser.

Either Shipley is not 100% or we have another very good WR in Harris, listed as co-starters.

Sanders still not healthy.

JO needs to see a few plays at QB, especially in 4th Q to see what he can do. AND NOT ALL RUN PLAYS

Swoopes, if healthy, should play QB, especially in 4th to see what he can do. AND NOT ALL RUN PLAYS

I dunno about you fellas but these injuries to the WR's are troubling to say the least. Mack mentioned it today in the presser about the position being the "thinnest." He talked up John Harris today big time, not sure if it is because Shipley needs more rehab time. Play Warrick out of the slot and let John Harris and Daje do some damage. It's NM State and we don't need Shipley or Davis playing if they AREN'T 100%.

Take this as a win going in: I haven't heard Mack upselling New Mexico State like they won the WAC last year or something. He's treating this like a game he should win handily, and tinkering with the lineup in an intelligent way. Now to just have the stones to hang 60 on them and get the team the work it needs.

The Horns put up 45 before the half in this one and McCoy and Swoopes get snaps in the 2nd half. NM State scores no more than 10 points in this game.
