Y'all-

Well, daddy got a raise yesterday. The last kid just graduated and life is good. Spent Thursday night at the Driskoll and got to have dinner with my daughter's beau's parents at Perry's. Wonderful couple. Got up Friday for 8:00 graduation for my daughter's boyfriend's graduation at Frank Erwin and then did it all again at noon at Gregory for my daughter's graduation. Anyway, a great day was had by all in Austin yesterday and headed back up today for the festivities that kick-off tonight at 8:00 at the tower.

Having said all of that, the group that graduated with my daughter's group included other disciplines as well. MJ McFarland, Aaron Benson, Case McCoy, and a few other players' names that we have become familiar with over the years. Furthermore, Deloss Dodds' grandson graduated with this group as well and Deloss was up on the stage was well for the commencement. Deloss looked VERY good and it not good but GREAT health. Upon having their name announced, while walking across the stage to receive their diploma EVERY football player went out of their way to hug Deloss on their way across the stage to receive their diploma. This isn't a pro-Deloss nor a bash Deloss observation. Those that know me know EXACTLY how I feel about Deloss however I thought that was great to see.

What surprised me was Buck Burnette had remained at UT after leaving the team and graduated- good for him! Before you ask, Burnette did not hug Deloss on his way across the stage.;0)

After graduating, the graduates proceeded outside of Gregory to a congregation area where the parents, family, & friends of the graduates met up with them. While waiting for us to come out, my daughter ran into Justin Tucker and got a pic with him- cool kid! Maybe McPhaul can tell me how to post the pic in this post?

Afterwards we headed to Salt Lick for some cold beer and barbeque. While sitting there at Salt Lick, drinking my Shiner Bock and looking at a plate of barbeque ribs, brisket, & sausage I realized, "Homey got a pay raise and his daugther is a Texas Ex all in the same day- life is pretty damn good!"

Hook 'em!

Congratulations. ... I've got 5 years until my oldest child heads to college and I become a poor man...

Congratulations SG!

My daughter graduated this time last year then decided to go to one of the more expensive a Law Schools in this part of the country. My retirement has been therefore..... Delayed!

congratulations sg!  please send regards to your daughter.

How outstanding for you and your family, as well as the rest of us. Congrats to you all. Since you are used to spending all that money, just send it to me if you find you have too much at some point and you're just not used to it anymore. :)

I remember walking out of my last final, realizing I had just completed my undergrad degree requirements and feeling underwhelmed that I really didn't feel any different being a college graduate than I felt before. It was over time that the significance of having earned a degree from UT Austin began to sink in. Congratulations on the pay raise and congratulations on having given your daughter an education, the value of which will grow on her just as much as it has grown on each of us over the years. If she thinks she has accomplished something today, she will soon begin to realize she has accomplished much more than she realizes.

Don't be shy about offering updates about how she is doing and don't hesitate to reach out and let me (or dare I say any of us) know if there are any networking opportunities we might help with or if (dare I say any of us) need to take out the boyfriend and give him some "scotch therapy" if he ever steps out of line. Someone I know had to deal with that from a bunch of UT alums one time and I'm not going to say who he was, but let's just say I didn't wake up until the next Tuesday and trust me, I got the message. ;)

Again, congratulations. Don't hesitate to ask if she ever needs to draw on a network of contacts.

Best accomplishment of my life is seeing both my daughters earn their degrees from the University of Texas (at Tyler, they didn't have the grades to get into UT Austin).  They both make good money and are self-sufficient (the "American Dream" for parents, especially as to the self-sufficient part!).

Congrats to you, SG, on your daughter's graduation!

The pay raise from graduation is only temporary, I assure you.  If you think an undergraduate degree was expensive, try a doggie/kitty medical school.

Then they get married, have kids, come to your house in the evening and want to know what's for supper.

It never ends.  :)

It's funny you mention this. That is EXACTLY what my daughter and her boyfriend said when I asked them "how does it now feel to be a UT Graduate?"
