Craziest recruiting stories

My top 4.

1) Kevin Hart- He was an offensive lineman out of Nevada. In early February he held an announcement where he picked Cal over Oregon. TV stations and the school made a big deal out of it. There was one huge problem, Hart completely made the entire recruitment up. He never had any type of contact with any of the coaches from Cal, Oregon, or Oklahoma State.

2) Floyd Raven of A&M. He initially committed to Ole Miss. He then decommitted from Ole Miss and committed to Aggy. He then decommited from Aggy and committed to Ole Miss. Then on National Signing Day he once again decommitted from Ole Miss and signed with Aggy. You can't even make this up.  What makes it even crazier is that his mother signed his LOI to play at Ole Miss and Raven signed his LOI to play at A&M.

3) When Bob Morton decommitted from A&M to play ball at Notre Dame. The recruitment wasn't all that crazy but it was the single biggest meltdown I've seen by any fanbase in all of sports. If you think Aggy meltdowns are something now, you should have seen this one. Apparently, Morton still gets hate letters and calls from Aggys.

4) Ka'lial Glaud. He was down to West Virginia and Rutgers but couldn't make a choice, so he flipped a coin.

From an interview with B. Switzer

I heard about the time you recruited somebody — it might have been Billy Sims — and there was a rumor you hid him in a basement?

I told Billy to hide out for two days. I wanted to sign Kenny King — hell, I wanted to sign every player in Texas, which I damn near did. I signed 13 of the 19 blue-chip list that year. Kenny King, Daryl Hunt, the Tabor twins, Greg Roberts, Thomas Lott, Billy Sims, and several others. But I can’t be everywhere, and Kenny wanted me to sign him at 8 a.m. Once I told Billy to hide out, he went to Houston with his dad for two days.

I sold him on it when I told him that once the smoke clears, everyone is going to be wondering where’d Billy sign? And then you’re going to get all of the attention and all the press when you sign. He kind of liked that idea. Two days later, he surfaces in Hooks, Texas, and all the attention and media in the country is given to him.

The no. 1 player in Texas disappears for two days and resurfaces in west Texas after National Signing Day to sign his letter of intent. Could you imagine that happening today?
