i know i'm in the minority as a frequenter (is that a word) of message boards. but the zillion threads on every board about any one kid just amaze me.

i hope we get some talented kids, and i suspect we will. but the obsessing over every tweet, clothing change or any other clue offered by 17-year old HS players who may or may not become good 20-year old college players is an odd phenomenon to me.

I agree with you but is it significantly different that what we went through with Saban? The flight trackers, sighting of his wife buying houses, contract reviewed, contracts not reviewed... Unfortunately I think it's all a by product of the media age we live in.

Part of me thinks that the really smart kids understand this and troll all of us just to get a rise out of the fan base.

I'm here for the community.  I am certainly not going to obsess over recruiting one year, 6 months, 3 months, or even 2 months out.  I think it is amazing that people do.

Do the unchoosen hats get sent to third world countries like the championship tees printed before the games for the teams that end up losing?

When I was doing some work for OB, I was told when I attended games and went down to the sidelines for evaluation and interview purposes, don't wear UT gear.  The first game that I attended I wore a UT polo so that the head coach and player that I was highlighting would know who I was after the game.  The amount of parents and people that come up to you or yelled for me to come to them was amazing.  I was handed stats and names of players from parents who's son was anywhere from 12-18 years old.  It was amazing and that was years ago before social media is what it is today.

Yep, it used to be a lot simpler when the Dallas, Houston and Austin papers would come out with their top 50 or 100 high prospects in December, update "commitments" during January and publish signing results the day after in February.

I'm pretty sure Jerry Scarbrough had no idea what he started with the first pub of Tur Orange!

Obsession noted. Over the years, I used to get pretty caught up in the recruiting battles, but not anymore.  

It's like a college football recruit beauty pageant... on steroids.

I never used to follow recruiting - mostly because Mack would wrap up the class so early that it was never really very interesting to watch.  These last two years I've been heavily invested and its driving me nuts.  Why on earth would I do this to myself?

I have been a Longhorn for 75 years, follow the program as closely as I can from afar, and really want us to do well. But I also understand that recruiting is a crapshoot. All of the star systems are fine, but over the years I have seen what would be 5 star kids crash and burn at the college level, and a lot of what would be 2 or 3 star kids become great players

Clearly the kids must have some athleticism, but a few of them just mature earlier than others. I think that everyone that thinks that Jefferson is a must have or the class is a failure are mistaken. I think that there are several in our class that will be as good as he is. Quite frankly, I think the McNeal kid will be a better college player, whoever gets him. BWTFDIK?

It is fun to watch the recruiting play out. I do it for entertainment. Since I am retired, I have the time to do it, and I enjoy seeing the speculation and the interplay among the board members. Pissing contests I can do without, though.

I will predict that 3 years from now, this recruiting class will prove to have been very good, whether or not we get some of those "must haves" like Jefferson. I just hope I am around to watch them play. LOL

That's why I quit reading the '2015 Recruiting' thread. It got to be all just conjecture and wishin' and hopin'. However, I did get through page 119.

Its like the second season of football to me.  Since we dont get to play ags anymore beating their ass in recruiting would have been just as beautiful.  But it appears the other way around this year.

I think Newsome > McNeil.

As for Jefferson, it would be foolish to say we dont need LB's especially ones with his talent.  I am worried about our recruiting, but I guess most on here are content with coaching up 2 stars into 4 stars.  I for one, prefer the 5 stars and then coach them up.  You cant coach speed and raw talent.

I am not impressed with this staffs recruiting thus far, it could change before NSD but to say "Nah we will fine with 2-3 stars" seems rather complacent.  I kinda liken that attitude to lets become the next K-State.  While they are a good team with a bunch of coached players I hold Texas to a higher standard.

One of the well written criticisms of Strong staff was it lacked any notable great recruiters.  I think that is beginning to show.

But watch I will get flamed in a few minutes for that bit of criticism, LOL  #WaitforIt
