The nation’s last undefeated still stands, as the the Aggies swept Auburn to open SEC play and run their record to 21-0. Grayson Long (6 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 7 K) assumed the Friday starter’s role, replacing the injured A.J. Minter. Hunter Melton (2-for-4) had all six RBIs for the Aggies in the opener, his second-inning grand slam off Keegan Thompson (7 IP, 10 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 4 BB, 4 K) giving them the lead for good. Auburn jumped ahead to an early lead with a two-run first on Saturday, and Tigers starter Rocky McCord held the Aggies scoreless through the first three frames. But Texas A&M junior lefthander Matt Kent (8.1 IP, 10 H, 4 ER, 0 BB, 7 K) settled down to deliver his longest career outing, and the Aggies got to McCord (4.1 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 5 BB, 2 K) in the middle innings. Auburn scored first again Sunday, but the Aggies answered with four runs in the sixth to take the lead. Turner Larkins (6.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 7 K) turned in a fine outing in his first weekend start, replacing Minter.

The Longhorns were nearly upset by West Virginia on Friday. The Longhorns trailed 3-1 before solo homers by Brooks Marlow in the sixth and C.J. Hinojosa in the seventh brought them back. Parker French (9 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 7 K) went nine innings but did not get a decision. On Saturday, lefthander Josh Sawyer (2 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 3 K) provided little length, and though the Longhorns came back, they couldn’t seal the deal in a 10-inning loss. Sunday came easier for Texas. Led by Chad Hollingsworth (7 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K) on the mound and Colin Shaw (2-for-3, two RBIs) at the plate, Texas won, 5-1.
