Eleven Wide Receivers and spots on the Cowboys roster. Who makes it and who is on the Practice Squad? It gets worse for the young guys because there are actually only (3) spots open. I think we can all agree that Dez and Austin are a given. Here is a look at the rest of the group.

View attachment 119

Danny Coale..Danny, a fifth round draft pick from Va Tech, is suffering from a foot injury but still has a good spot because the Cowboys may not want to risk getting him through waivers to the practice squad. I predict he is put on the PUP list.

Andre Holmes..It looked like he was a sure thing until he failed his camp physical. The guy is big ( 6' 5), fast(4.45) and dumb. Scouts say he can catch a ball with guys hanging off his back. I predict he will make the team.

Dwayne Harris...He is a real option at punt and kickoff return man if Dez or Felix go down. It will still be hard for this kid to make the team but the numbers say he will make the team.

Kevin Ogletree...He is penciled in as the third WR at the beginning of training camp. I just don't see a there in Ogletree..Will come down to Kevin or Cole..

Cole Beasley...He is a local kid from SMU but he is only 5' 8 and 182 pounds. He gets pissed by the Wes Welker comparison but that comparison is why he was signed to a UDFA contract..See above.

Raymond Radway...He is not healthy from his broken leg on the last play of the 2011 pre season game. I expect to see him on IR and to make a come back in 2013.

Saalim Hakin...He's 22 and didn't start in collgege but he is also very fast. He ran a 4.31-40 and it got everyone's attention. He is a pure project and a long shot for the roster. Unless they find a mystery injury he looks like a practice squad guy.

Tim Benford...No chance

Donovan Kemp..See Above

Dez...probably will make the team :)

Miles..another good chance guy :)

Option 12: Get a Veteran...Jerry and Jason say they are not looking at bringing in another WR..so that makes this a real possibility

Didnt Donovan Kemp play for the Super Sonics????

Im not an Ogletree fan at all. He's had his chances.

Shawn Kemp. He fathered like 28 children by 142 different women...

I have been pulling for Holmes to get a legit shot at making the team. I like his attitude and his physical abilities are incredible. Mind blowing the money these guys make and fail to run and lift in the offseason.

Precisely. The Cowboys #3 WR spot has been a grease fire the last few years with exception of Laurent Robinson. Someone HAS to step it up.

I wish they could have found a way to keep Robinson but he was due some serious coin. I picked him up late in my Fantasy League and he paid dividends. I'm all about 2 things when it comes to the NFL. The Dallas Cowboys AND FANTASY FOOTBALL. Throw cheerleaders in there if you want to...

The key to the third receiver is Dez and Miles. Robinson had a great year but according to advanced stats he was the least doubled WR in the league. Dez was second in this category with Megatron in Detroit being the only guy doubled more. If Dez advances like he has every year and Miles has another of his years the third receiver will thrive.

Plus remember the Cowboys have a perpetual 1000 yard receiver in Witten. So in fact the number three receiver will end up as the fourth receiver.

And we see why he isnt a number one. All you need is someone to do his job

I just read a post in the Dallas Morning News and it ranked the WR progress, be it only in three days since Thursday was an off day.

Dwayne Harris has been the most consistent. Raymond Radway made the best play of training camp, so far, but has also ran wrong routes and dropped passes.

Danny Coale is expected back next week from injury and Andre Holmes has his first practice Friday after failing his conditioning test.

Mike Jenkins is on the PUP list??
Yes but the PUP in training camp is not like the regular season. If you go on the PUP in the regular season you are out until week six.

Yeah I know. I forgot he had pretty serious shoulder surgery. With Carr and Claiborne around he better heal soon so he can get up and challenge. The Cowboys need some good competition happening at key spots. Complacency in is no good no matter how much you pay a player. I haven't seen the fire in the Cowboys in a few years. I think this year could be different.

Camp has seen some big hits. Those LB's are all over the place and they all hit. Carter tore it up in mini camps and is starting training camp the way he finished. I see some good things this season.

Cowboys of last season were a paradox..Offense was 5th in the league with 4 come from behind wins in the fourth quarter...but..the defense allowed 5 losses in the fourth quarter as well. New CB's and better ILB play will fix that..
