Why isn't a name like brian Kelly, out there for a head coaching job at texas.

He did take a notre dame team to the national title last year.

When it comes to Texas, there are very few lateral moves in football. Notre Dame to Texas is one of those moves.

With all due respect, He'd be a fool to go to UT from ND.

One of the top QB's in the nation in Golson, with a talent-stacked ND team to return next year at Notre Dame ... to the current chaos at UT?

Besides, Mack Brown would likely "not approve" of such a hire. So you could likely not get him anyway...

It's not like ND has been setting the world on fire.. and they aren't what they used to be... in time, maybe.

The "brand" Notre Dame has more appeal that the team, these days.

But I agree.. Kelly wouldn't leave for Texas.

I can see the first part. But what makes you think Mack Brown has a say in this? and why would Brown not approve of such a hire?

I don't think Kelly is a target but this post reminds me no fan ever thinks they are going to lose their coach until they lose him.

Since when is Golson a top QB in the nation?

He does not have the required championship ring...NFL or NCAA..Did not show well in his only trip last year.

Your description of ND also perfectly sums up UT.

Except ND fans do not want to wait 35 years between National Championships and have no care in the world for Conference championships... but besides that we have a lot in common.

One thing that UT can learn from ND is how to fire a coach... when ND fires a coach - he packs his crap and gets out of South Bend that very day. He still will be the highest paid coach at ND 4 years from now with that hefty buyout and severance package (see Weis being paid until 2015).

You skip the bowl game. That's right - you skip it. You just fired the coach - you're not trying to keep a friend by a token bowl appearance. It is not like he will be less mad that he was just canned by giving him a bowl "sendoff'...

This talk of keeping Mack as an employee for "fundraising" capacities is perplexing... I do not know how UT can sell that to the next coach in a positive light.

I don't know why the last coach would even want to stick around in that scenerio...

Can anyone shed some light on that? Is that even true?

Golson is no where near the top qb in the country. Nd was extremely lucky to get to the nc last year and their performance proved it. They can keep him. Nd shouldn't be allowed in BCS Bowls until they join a conference. They aren't anyone special imo

We don't need Mack's approval for crap.

Notre dame before Kelly was just a mess, he is a proven winner at every school he has been at, Im not saying he is my choice for texas, ofcourse saban and fisher are my top two. Just curious why his name isn't really out there over people like franklin and shaw who havnt.
