Guys,

Myself and Lukus (lsampson) are going to be working on getting some board rules and regulations together over the next day or two and I wanted to get some input from everyone on what you guys want us to do.

Since we feel like this board has been created for everyone and everyone shares in how it is run I wanted to get everyone's ideas and formulate the rules from there.

Thanks in advance for your help guys.

I think a rule that will most certainly need to be implemented soon is same topic posts. For example:

Saban to Texas (7:32 PM Jan 7th)

[This thread details how Saban has reached an agreement to become the new Longhorn Head Coach]

Saban is Coming!!! (7:34 PM Jan 7th)

[This thread expresses excitement about Saban coming to Texas]

It's Happening!! (6:38 AM Jan 8th)

[This thread is full of gifs about Saban coming to Texas]

There isn't any reason why those three threads shouldn't all be discussed in the same thread. I like what another forum (OS) does when these things happen. Moderators find the first thread posted, change the topic to Official, provide a news clip in the first post for proof and give credit to the poster who first posted the story. All other threads are locked. It keeps the board from getting messy and out of control. Take today for instance, there are two to three different threads discussing CB and his recent comments. There really isn't a reason that we couldn't discuss that in one central thread.

That's just my input.

Outside of that, I'm in favor of a one warning ban system. If a poster starts making personal attacks and/or doesn't bring anything positive to the board, they get a warning. If they do it again, they get an IP ban or something.

prob the main thing is just attacking posters I would think. There has to be some balance from being a site like Hornfans that allows NO negativity at all and Orangebloods. I think we have to let people speak their minds within reason and people can respond without attacking. I've seen boards die because things are too strict and people cant have fun. you dont want that atmosphere where everything is very heavily moderated

and I've seen them die because there is zero moderation and its just a free for all where people leave - like is happening at Orangebloods now to a degree

I think OT's are fine and I Love women. Don't get me wrong but to Blast boobs on a daily basis is wrong and degrading to women. Love the site and Love the direction it is going.

First rule is there are no rules.

No, seriously, if posters will treat each other with respect, a lot of rules shouldn't be necessary, though, of course, some guidelines for posting are needed.

Ban poster. Boobs are needed daily.:)jk

No rules opinions really other than to keep the poster on poster attacking down. Discussion of information posted is great and that's where it needs to stay. I have only been here a short time and it seems to be growing fast and the best thing about this place has been the ability to have mature discussion on topics with out personal attacks.

The other things I would suggest would be to have a good number of moderators on the board and keep the count rising as more members come in. We all have busy schedules, work, family etc... keeping the mod count up only helps the flow of the board.

I think the rules and the proper enforcement of them will determine the success of building a great community or not. There are a lot of longtime UT message board lurkers right now, but we need a reason to make this our primary home.

1. No direct shots at other posters. This destroys threads, runs off quality posters and is just bad karma. Biggest mistake of OB is not addressing this issue.

2. Off topic threads should be labeled OT. Nobody can complain if labeled correctly and within other rules. Just don't click on thread if not interested.

3. No cursing, no nudity and no politics. If someone wants to post Maxim-like photos or link a Playboy-like photo in an OT thread, fine.

4. Try not to start a thread already started.

5. Be sensitive to student athletes. It is one thing to be critical of Case McCoy's performance but it is another to disrespect him.

6. Ban continual rule breakers and trolls. One must have a long-term vision.

1) Don't get your panties in a wad

2) Take a time-out if your panties get in a wad.

3) wait until all evidence is in before shooting the messenger

4) I like the idea of keeping same topics under one thread. Sometimes I think people just like starting threads.

5) see #1, if you don't agree with the message or messenger express it civilly.

No attacking of posters. Duplicate threads don't bother me. Attacking posters or mods and calling people out is unnecessary

Board rules? C'mon guys, I have been here since the beginning, and we have never had or needed board rules. Why is everyone so uptight about words on a computer screen? Plus i'm old school, rules are for pussies.

This is exactly right. The only rule I'm into is to respect the members that built this site. What I have learned when there a lot of rules, it becomes impossible to moderate consistently.

Point well taken!

I think in terms of rules in regards to content it should be pretty lax and be treated on a case by case basis by the mods, but I do think there need to be some rules in regards to placement etc of posts.

I agree with what some have said about multiple topics, it would be better and easier (for me at least) if things were put into one thread. Also, there has been some stuff posted in this forum that I don't think belongs, I.E. stuff about Christmas gifts (just an example, I even posted in that topic too, ha!) that should probably go in the non-sports forums. If we are to have those forums they should be used. Another BBS I'm on, Clutchfans, implements their hangout section pretty well. I think this adds to the experience in terms of keeping sports with sports and non sports with non sports. Great conversations can occur with both, but it detracts from the conversation if they're both in the same place IMO

I think personal attacks needs to be nipped in the bud immediately. That is the one thing that irritated me so much about OB. Someone would post info, and they get attacked because they posted it. I cant tell you how many times I want to post an OPINION, but gave it a second thought, because of how people reacted to others opinions if it was not the same as theirs.

Is there anyway to have an Off Topic section for the forums? We could keep all Horns related stuff in one forum, and an Off Topic forum in another section. And I think maybe a NSFW section. I am not talking full blown nudity/porn etc. I say keep the rules the same as OB had it for blasting, but just keep it all centralized. That way if someone WANTS to see, they can go to that section of the forums to see it. If they dont want to, they can stay in the BoB and read up on sports.
