I get perplexed at how naive the various boards are becoming. Everyone seems to want to bash the BMDs. People that pay the freight have a right to be heard, not to dictate, but to share their thoughts. I'm sure that everyone is playing nice, and saying the right things, but if Patterson and Powers hadn't thumbed their noses at the BMDs, how long do you think it would take to come up with Chad Morris' buy-out. I'm guessing three phone calls. Do you honestly think major contributors to politicians don't expect access. Like it or not, this is the world we live in. Perhaps they will call us the next time DKR needs a face-lift or new indoor practice facility. I hope all you bashers are ready to write checks with lots of zeros!

They always share their thoughts.

The problem is, they do want to dictate and get pissed off when they don't get their way.

Nature of the beast.

So, you're claiming to be a BMD? Care to share your name with us? I'll also accept a PM if you care to share.

Totally agree..Take Red for an example. The guy has given, by accounts, over $200 million to the university, and I am sure he will give more when he passes. I don't agree with his statements but I do understand how he felt shut out. Patterson should tread lightly with these folks. They bleed burnt orange and I am not so sure about Patterson?

This is all fine and dandy, but who should we turn to for managing our beloved university? Should it be a collection of money brokers, that feel they bought an extortion ticket to management, or to an administration tasked with the responsibility of managing a company as large as UT?

I'm not a fan of meddling BMD's, especially rogues, that took it upon themselves to solicit Saban, that operate outside of the confines of UT's management chain. That almost smacks of anarchy and allows the country to perceive the organization of UT as a cluster .... And the country wouldn't be far wrong.

Maybe the whole if it -- from the AD hire, to where we are now -- has been less about managing personnel, more about managing power.

The "normal" basis for decision- making of personnel over-layed with action-reaction power related elements. No surprise some coaches are shy to be part of it.

Perhaps later. We may be at a point where a band of coaches will come together and spend one full season creating a new Texas Longhorn image. Earning it.

If we build it, they will come? Life not a matter of belief, as a matter of demonstration.

I've an idea Coach Strong would have it no other way.

Ounce done, power, per se, as it has been around these parts, should no longer have its way. Having allowed that for years can be paid for in ... The Pit. Practice. Games.

If "We're Texas" just go out and do it.

The staffing may not start out perfect, but neither is a single class of recruits. Coach Strong is in position to build something and prove something. I think he can.

I am not, and did not claim to be a BMD. I do appreciate that some people make large donations to this university, and I for one believe they deserve a seat at the table.

Hmmmm. Okay, I have two degrees from UT, and that was some serious money for me. I, also, make large contributions to the Foundation. Does all of this give me a vote on who our next coaches should be? How about all of the grads that paid their way through school - big money there as well. Do they have a seat at the table?

Or does it correlate directly to HOW MUCH $$ is donated? If this is the case, what is the entry fee? Can a group of us, say a thousand, amass a large collection of money to be able to join the exclusive fraternity or buy the naming rights to a building?

Is the average student or grad blackballed from attaining a seat at the UT management table? Only an elite few have a voice about our beloved university?

The bottom line is that I don't how many ways BS can be said about your assertion, but I am sure there are quite a few.

WOW..comparing you donations to $200 million, and that's one guy? It is laughable to think that kind of money doesn't get you access.

I was laughing at Doc's post. If his large contributions to the foundation are in the realm of those of McCombs, Jamail, the Hicks brothers, Dell, etc. I'm ready for us to put his statue next to Red's. Let me know where to send my $10 contribution.

While I do agree that $200 million does merit a certain amount of "say so", the point needs to be made clear apparently that a donation is nothing more than a free contribution. Free, as in the person giving the donation should not expect something in return. Obviously a $200 million donation is a whole other ball of wax, but the facts ultimately remain the same in the event that Powers and Patterson choose not to include them. I don't really have a dog in this race, but I wanted to make sure everyone was aware.

Got it - it's not that one makes a donation - it's HOW MUCH of a donation that counts. So, not only has UT sold out to the BMD, you have as well. Basically the school and YOU have been bought - because of the size of his donation. :)

Texas is not Texas without the BMD's IMO they have a vested interest in wanting Texas to be successful (even if that reason is for ego or pride).

My issue is that a donation in the purest of forms shouldn't be with strings attached or expectation of benefits. You should just say your paying for special treatment... just my belief.

Sounds like your random fan on a message board.

I didn't go to college. I am just a huge fan of UT. I have been for as far back as my 46 years can remember. BUt the fact remains that a donation is just a donation. It should in no way merit you the right to make decisions. The reason it shouldn't, is because you are free to not give your money. AD's or Presdients if a University can ASK you for help and tell you what they want to do with the money. It is then that individuals choice to give the money.

Just my opinion.
