Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby opened things up and had a lot to say. Some of the notable things:

-Big 12 has taken a new and more stringent stance on concussions, including a new Public Service Announcement. Bowlsby mentioned that the Big 12 doesn't want to "sisify" the game because it IS football, but player safety is paramount.

-Big 12 will unveil new logo in 2014.

-Bowlsby went on a bit of a rant regarding the NCAA and its leadership/ vision. Bowlsby mentioned the need for reform and a unified vision.

-All Big 12 players will wear radio frequency (RF) chips in their shoulder pads to all for tracking velocity, etc...

-Bowlsby addressed the preseason conference media poll and Oklahoma State's #1 ranking. He mentioned the polling was very "Iowa Causus-ish" in its close numbers.

-He acknowledged that the Big 12 is devoid of a dominant quarterback.

Oklahoma State.

Mike Gundy's highlight items:

-Oklahoma State will run an even more up-tempo offense. "Playing fast gives us the best chance to win football games at Oklahoma State."

-Gundy acknowledged that his name has come up in conjunction with other vacant head coaching positions. He said that he is very happy in Stillwater.

-He talked a lot about how he recruits players to fit his system. Uptempo offenses are the was college football IS these days.

-Talked a lot about WR Josh Stewart and how he has matured into a true team leader.

-Gundy did not name a starter at QB - Clint Chelf or J.W. Walsh.

Kansas State's Bill Snyder - aka The Purple Wizard....

-Snyder mentioned his amazement at how fast these offenses are run in the Big 12.

-He mentioned that he watched the UT Spring game and saw an offense that snapped the ball every 9 seconds.

-Talked a lot about his career in coaching. He has come a long way and seen all sorts of things, changes in the game.

-Acknowledged KSU has a lot of pieces of the puzzle to pick up after losing a lot of seniors last season.

-Snyder mentioned that he once taught four units of Spanish class - even though he does not know Spanish.

-Snyder's Wildcats were picked 6th last season in the preseason Big 12 poll - They won the conference. On where he predicts his team to finish this season - "I'm not smart enough to do that."

TCU's Gary Patterson...

-We're buying less diapers now that were in our second season in the Big 12.

-TCU camp starts on July 31.

-I didn't bring a qb to media days because I don't know who my starting qb is (when asked about Casey Pachall).

-If you wanna play well in the Big 12 you have to have good qb play.

-When asked about a possible split in playing tiem between Trevon Boykin and Casey Pachall: They both have skills. Trevon can beat you with his legs and Casey can beat you with his arm. It probably will not be a 50-50 split in playing time though. We will have to see how 2 a days goes but there is a place on this team for both players.

-On asked if he feels Pachall has learned his lesson - "When I saw him after he was back, I knew we did the right thing." You have to remember that these are 18 year old kids and they are someone's son. He did everything he needed to do off the field that he needed to do.

-Teams need to play a "statement" game every 2 or 3 years - according to Patterson. TCU opens up against LSU on 8/31/2013 at Jerryworld in Dallas.

Kansas Head Coach Charlie Weiss...

-Plans to use RB Toni Pierson more to open up a lot of holes and make the offense more productive.

-Weiss recruited the JUCO ranks so heavily last season out of necessity.

-QB Jake Heaps changes the dynamic of the KU offense. The Jayhawks had a hard time throwing last year but that should change this year.

Texas Tech Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury....

-There is a lot of parity in this league. Excited to be back in this great league (Big 12).

-We wanna push the pace up a bit on our offense.

-When asked about being the youngest coach in the league, Kingsbury says "It's easy to sell product when you love what you do."

-Kingsbury was asked about the recruiting impact Texas A&M has had in Texas after moving to the SEC. He says it hasn't affected us (TTU).

-He is excited about the Red Raider defense - they have mad a lot of progress.

Big 12 Coordinator of Officials Walt Anderson....

-Rules Changes being discussed

-Targeting rules are going to be heavily enforced this season. Traditional wrap-up tackles will need to be made lower.

-17 targeting calls were made last year. 5 would have been reversed.

-"The game is under attack and we will work to change it from within."
