Someone explain this to me. Let's call Saban, Saban. And why do we think Bellmont is throwing up smokescreens. For what purpose?

I don't know if it's Bellmont "throwing up smokescreens". To me, it just looks like media hacks speculating on who may be a good fit for UT. Laughable that ESPN rolls out Finebaum as a source on anything happening at UT. Our guy, McPhaul, is doing the same thing when he references his sources. An entertaining read, but fact-based? Hardly.

Having said that, Patterson has to do his due diligence and interview more candidates than he necessarily wants to. He needs to have Plan B and C in place just in case Saban or Fisher falls through. Why not talk to B-Listers like Strong and Franklin? No harm in it, plus you'll appease the affirmative action, PC crowd.

The reality is a coach, let's use Briles for example, may not walk away from his $40M, 10 year contract. He's content and happy with Baylor and can live comfortably in Waco with much less pressure than he'd experience at UT. It's damn tough to follow a legend. Last four years notwithstanding, that's exactly what the next coach will be expected to do.
