but... but... they already had the national championship ceremony w/plaqueJimbo Fisher is fired. $76 million paid on buyout.
Whoever did that contract for A&M should be fired. So they go 10 years $75M guaranteed. Ok so that’s who they wanted so ok. But then just a few years in they add like 5 more years and a BUNCH more money guaranteed. At that point he wasn’t even doing as good as Sumlin. So why not wait a few more years and see if you still want to extend him? Teams weren’t beating down his door to get him……..he wasn’t going anywhere. The extension for more years and make him one of the highest paid coaches in the country just made ZERO sense. That’s how he is now owed $76M.
It’s so bad that he is still guaranteed the money. Nothing is offset.so how does this buyout work, if he were to coach again do the payments stop or does he owe TAMU
That provision was not in the buyout. He keeps the money even if he coaches next year. Aggy effectively won a bidding war against themselves.so how does this buyout work, if he were to coach again do the payments stop or does he owe TAMU
The problem is that you are applying logic to aggy thinking.Initially when they hired him away from fsu, they really wanted him, and made him a ridiculous offer, with terms that were all in jimbos favor. After he had a descent year in 2019 lsu was allegedly pursuing him, so aggy felt they needed to make his contract even more ridiculous.
Another odd aspect of his contract if memory surves me, is that he had no buy out, so could freely take a different job if he chose, and aggy wouldn't get anything. This essentially made it cheaper for lsu to make him an attractive offer.
You would think they would have gotten some performance benchmarks built into the contract, plus it sounds like if he gets another job, aggy doesn't get any financial relief, which is typical in these contracts.
Do you think silly lucy is right?
When a replacement is already in the wings, imo.How often is an HC fired after a convincing win?
