Basketball News/Recruiting Thread

At least we got some good news after the Holland decommit. Weaver and Onyema definitely help, and things are trending in a positive direction with Hunter coming back.

Holland will not be back at Texas, I am told. It is not an NIL thing. Instead, Holland and his camp were/are making demands on playing time and how he's used. Holland will end up at Arkansas because they're willing to do whatever he wants.

If this is true, and I have no reason not to believe SHA on this, then I just gained a crap ton of respect for RT.  I know he is talented, but Terry is trying to build a team and players have to earn the right to play.  As a former HS coach, I never recruited, I would always start every season with one msg, "Playing time is earned, not given.  It is a privilege to play and not a right.".

Then I feed them runny eggs and make them pee in cup so I can talk about proper hydration.

Note: I'm 100% joking on the last sentence for those of you that take things literally.

It pains me to say this but we all need to prepare for a return to mediocrity.

Beard might be the best coach in college basketball and we were right to part ways but he left us in awful situation.
Some might disagree but everything we accomplished this year was because of Beard. He brought the guys in and prepared them for the season. Rodney inherited a squad and they did what they had prepared to do.
Admin was basically forced to hire Coach Terry “Coach of the Year” because he didn’t screw up Beards team.
Terry, who has had a career of being average (that’s being nice) now has a four year contract at a program he wouldn’t even get an HC interview for under normally circumstances and now he’s the guy.
We did the right thing and now we must pay the piper

Interesting take... I hope you're wrong.

Terry has a reputation as a very good recruiter.  Also, his coaching , during games this year, I thought was fantastic.  Granted, we don't know how he will administrate the entire program - from hiring and managing assistant coaches to evaluating talent etc...

His record at universities with much less to offer than Texas - doesn't fly off the page either.  I grant you that.

I'll add one more thing (I meant to hit edit... but oh well...

I think our offense actually improved when Terry took over.  Defense, may have declined.

What you say is certainly possible.

Lots of nuance with this situation. Terry also had a lot to do with bringing in the guys and preparing them as well. How much of that was him vs. Beard, none of us really know.

He also had his first chance to be the man at a big time program and he showed some mettle in how he handled it. Can he repeat that strong coaching performance? That we don't know.

Time will tell.
