Texas vs. ou sux weekend series

Teams swept by the last place team, at home, don't deserve to host. This was a bad weekend in more ways than one.
I don't disagree with what you are saying, and like I said, we probably aren't a host as of right now. We will have to bounce back in order to be back in that conversation. This series dropped our RPI to #30.

I will continue to add some context as we tend to be myopic about Texas' struggles.

#3 Florida got swept by #6 South Carolina. #4 Vanderbilt got swept by unranked Tennessee. #7 East Carolina  swept by Wichita State. #5 Arkansas got swept by Georgia. #8 Virginia swept by Notre Dame. #2 Wake Forest goes 1-2 against Louisville. #1 LSU, #9 Stanford and #10 Coastal Carolina all won their series but dropped a game in the process.

Trying to feel better about ourselves because other teams got beat is a little bit aggyish.

#3 Florida got swept by #6 South Carolina. Games were at SC who has the #1 or #2 RPI

#4 Vanderbilt got swept by unranked Tennessee. Games at Tenn who is a lot better than ou

#7 East Carolina  swept by Wichita State. Games at Wichita St who has over .600 winning %

#5 Arkansas got swept by Georgia. Games at Georgia, who BTW were 2nd to last in the $ec yet they are 16-6 out of conference, .575 winning % overall

#8 Virginia swept by Notre Dame. Games at ND who has over .600 winning %

#2 Wake Forest goes 1-2 against Louisville. Games at Louisville, both Louisville and WF's schedule shows WF winning 2 of 3

#1 LSU, #9 Stanford and #10 Coastal Carolina all won their series but dropped a game in the process.

LSU played at Ol Miss, Stanford played at home vs Washington (over .600 winning %) who beat UCLA 2 of 3 at home, Coastal Carolina played at home against #23 Southern Miss
My comments above in bold.

None of the above scenarios fit Texas vs ou who has the worst winning % of all the teams listed above except Ol Miss. The only one that is close is pigs vs Georgia but those were at Georgia. On the Austin news last night they showed an interview with Pierce and he was pissed. It was an ugly, very ugly weekend for the baseball team. No sugar coating what happened this past weekend.

I agree, it was a bad weekend for us. Can't really sugar coat it. I'm just providing a look into what is happening elsewhere in the top 10 so that we realize we aren't the only ones who had bad weekends. And yes, ours was probably the worst and is reflected in the fact that we dropped out of the top 25 while the teams listed all mostly stayed in the top 10.

Teams in the top 25 last week went 50-53 this last week. That's pretty wild and shows that college baseball is a bit of a blood bath right now.

I'm as disappointed as Pierce in our performance last week. Hopefully it lights a first under some guys and we close out the season playing better ball.

Or his ire completely dismantles the team. I don’t think there’s really any in-between scenario.
At the end of the day, this team is fully capable of playing better baseball. I don’t care how “bad” the opponent is, giving up 8 in the first 3 innings of Game 2 & 5 in the first 2 innings of Game 3 is a hard hill to climb. Pitching has to improve. This team is not going to fare well with abysmal efforts on the bump. Now is where we not only learn about the players, but also about Pierce and Williams.

Just my two cents worth and proably not worth that. There is nothing wrong with the team except relief pitshing. Hill or mound work can befixedby right rotation.

Only difference in offense is less homers this year. Averages are close to same. However DH so for not the best seiection.

Pitching could use a third starter Gordon has been great other two kind of erratic( wild) and Hurley might have not been used enough.

Starting pitching was the problem on Sat & Sun. Relief pitching (more especially late relief,) was the problem at Baylor. Agreed on Gordon and needing two effective starters. Hurley has had his challenges, and if we’re being honest, everyone outside of Gordon has shown nothing more than spotty consistency in the last couple of weeks. Yes, mound work will help, but even more so, these guys need self confidence in their abilities to throw strikes.

@joeywayou're probably the most knowledgeable person on this board when it comes to the baseball team. I've been thinking about our pitching lately and I'm wondering, are they trying to be too cute with the strike zone? Lately it appears we're trying to catch the corners or make them swing at bad pitches so have other teams discovered to just lay off our pitches? Against ou in the 2nd game, I believe I read/heard that of their 9 runs, 8 were players who had walked or been HBP.

Still pissed about this past weekend. Swept...by...ou... it sucks

Second ou game. Sthele started 1 inning pitched 1 hit 3 runs 1 walk. not good but still can win.

Staff favorite reliver 1.2 innings 2 hite 5 runs 3 walks game over

next 2 6.1 innings 4 hits  1 run 1 walk

Game 3 Minchey srsrts ( total of 8.1 innings all year) 1.1 innings 2 hits 4 runs 3 walks Why this atart vs biggestrival.

zRest of game 7.2 innings 5 hits 2 runs 5 walks.

So who really lost these two games Staff takes a lot of blame as for as I am corcened.

Hurley era 3.40 wins 3-0 ip 30.2  games in 18 games  with 4 starts.

Shaw 18 games 0 Starts era 1.71 innings pitched 20.1

Both of these not used enough IMO.

@tejasrulzI believe it’s a combination of “nibbling” around the zone and just a lack of confidence.

@joeywa, on the Austin news the other night, Pierce stated something to the effect that the pictures just need to throw strikes and whatever happens, happens. I'm thinking we could coach this team and split the millions say 50/50?
