For the What If category . . . Bama played their spring game yesterday. Tommy Brockermeyer didn't see action until halfway through the third. He gave up four sacks to Dallas Turner on Bama's defense. There were 15 sacks on the day and four of those came through Brockermeyer.

Either Bama has an incredible pass rush or their OL is way below their standard . . . or a little of both.

Betting Will Anderson and Dallas Turner will cause a lot of OL guys to have very bad days. Doesn't sound like Tommy is doing as good as he had hoped for.

Miami is stockpiling some talent. I hope they beat aggy in the opener.

And what if he gets cold cocked after a simulated slide? 15 yds and an ejection against the defense? This just puts more variables in the PF basket.

I think the Kenny Pickett play created an unfair situation for the defender. As soon as a QB starts the motion of a slide, defenders have to hit the brakes to avoid illegal contact. But, if QBs start the motion, and then don't slide (like Pickett did), the QB has an advantage and can get by the defender.

To me, this rule allows defenders to be 100% confident about hitting the brakes and avoiding contact as soon as the slide motion is initiated. This rule also puts an end to QBs trying to imitate the move Pickett pulled off. I had never seen that done before and with this rule I don't think we will ever see it again.

To your point about the defender getting a PF...I think it depends on if the play was whistled dead. If the QB fakes the slide and stays up, well he's fair game until a whistle is blown.

Seriously?
Absolutely, we see these upsets annually.

Sam Houston is one of the best FCS teams in the country (won national title in 2020), and App State has won 9+ games since 2015.

I'm not saying A&M will lose, but they'll need to be locked in for those before Miami in Week 3.
