Really rough start for Stevens.

Nixon with a middle relief appearance. I asked last week, does he lose his closer role? Today was evidence that may be the case.

Relief staff did well to limit the damage. Seemed like every inning, TCU had runners in scoring position and the pitcher was able to get out of the jam.

Offense was better tonight but not stellar. Melendez has been in a mini slump the last two big 12 series after being scorching hot.

Nixon, IMO, was used in middle relief to give him an opportunity to pitch some less stressful frames and work on his command/control of the fastball.  That had been lacking.  He had one solid frame.  Came out and couldn't locate.  I believe the staff is trying to get his confidence back.  This is a way to do that.

I'm not certain how all that works, but I have to believe that they count the season ticket holders as 'in attendance' when they make the announcement, even if they don't actually attend.  I'll do some research and let ya know.
I'm sure that's the case as they do that during the football games too.

To me he watches too many pitches go right down the middle then swings at the ones low & away. A walk is as good as a hit.

Scoreless thru 1 complete

T2

1-out single, followed by an RBI double gets TCU on the board

Horns trail 0-1 headed B3

B3

Hodo gets a 2-out single.  Melendez 2-run dinger over LCF gives the Horns a 2-1 lead.
