How would you feel if Texas won just one game in March Madness?

Another game day, another blown lead, (another scoring drought), another disappointing loss...

Instantly after the round 1 loss to TCU in the Big 12 tournament today, I thought ahead to March Madness... and I found myself thinking about the following:

Sure, I guess one March Madness win would mean something since Texas hasn't had a tournament win in over half a decade but we already know what's lacking from this team... I'm more curious to know what Beard does this off-season to address the current issues plaguing this team and the program.

My question to y'all... How would you feel about Beard after this first season if they win game one and lose in the round of 32? Would you feel any different if Texas loses its first game in the round of 64 if the loss is in the same fashion they've typically lost most of their games this season?

I am pleased with Beard for 1) putting together a team where there wasn't one, and 2) taking that team to a nice season and a NCAA berth. Thats impressive to me. There was a time not long ago, prior to Beard, where I wondered if we'd hit double digit wins this year.

Was the season perfect? No. Not even close. But it was much better than I thought it would be.

I'd like to see an opening round win.

I feel anything less than Sweet 16 is a failure for this season. I do like what he is building for the future, but winning 1 more game than Shaka did would not move the needle much for me. Again for this year, going forward I am optimistic in what he is building.

We got an invite to the Dance so that's a C. 2 wins gets you a B and it'll take a 3rd win for an A. 1 win is expected. For this team, a second win would depend on the match up. I'm not very confident Texas plays in the 2nd weekend.

Thats really not a fair comparison. Shaka didn't have to worry about throwing together a new team. To take what Shaka left him and finish 4th in the conference isn't bad.

Give Shaka the same situation and  . . . .

All he has to do is win one game in the tourney to be better than Shaka.

For a program that hasn't won a tournament game in 8 years, one win would sure feel nice.

Obviously some people had higher expectations but it's been a long time since they've simply won a game. I would consider it an acceptable first year if Beard got this team to the round of 32.

Figure 1 win. But not holding my breath. I'm guessing next season will be better.

1st season for Beard that has at least 21 wins in the regular season. If he gets 1, 2, or more wins in the dance should be looked at as a success. It probably won't be where we all had hope for, but comsider that we have no true big to go to down low and our best point guard is Askew.

Pretty sure he wasn't hired to be 1 game better than Shaka, but like I said before I like what he is building.
I don't believe so either but I don't think they expected much from his first team, which had three members when he started. Later, yes, the expectations grow because after all, he was hired because he went final four at basketball hell (Lubbock).

Months ago we were simply worried about having an embarrassing season. Now we're not content with an NCAA bid. My how times do change.

To that point Mark, 5 months ago this team had Jones, Febres & Ramey. We don't win too many games with just those 3. Now we're in the big dance talking about a tournament win would be a disappointment.  We play in the toughest (arguably) basketball conference in the nation, finished 4th, with a win over rock chalk.  All with a 1st year coach who had to pull a rabbit out of his hat just to field a competitive squad; a bunch of individually talented guys who have never played together.  I personally think Beard has done & is doing an excellent job and give him an A for the season regardless of how the tournament shakes out. Of course I'd LOVE for them to get a few breaks and make the sweet 16. But if they make it to the round of 32, then it's hard to say this season was a let down...

Lot of preseason hype not so much results. Tourny loss to TCU while OU takes out Baylor.

Sorta like football n the outside looking in.

Thanks goodness for the other sports.

I will be disappointed with 1 tourney win. I've been disappointed overall this season. The team shown flashes but couldn't ever find ways around their deficiencies. I will commend the players for their effort though. These guys have played hard, just haven't consistently hit the shots when needed.

Still have faith in Beard and staff. He has done a superb job at sparking interest in basketball again. I'm expecting him to continue to keep this thing moving on an upward trend. I'm optimistic there are great things coming in the future.

After yesterday? I'd feel pretty good if they won a game.

Last year, Texas was Big XII Tournament champs and promptly lost to ACU. So I'm hoping they will at least win 1 or 2 games (depending on the bracket) this year. Either way, I wont have this team advancing far in my bracket.

I agree.

I think I (with an assist from the media hype machine - and our preseason ranking) overestimated the portal pickups.   They are good players, but I allowed myself to believe we had reassembled the Dream Team.

I listened to a pundit guy from ESPN last night talk about Texas and some other program in comparison (can't recall who). Anyway, he noted the difference in the results was that the program I can't remember took transfers from winning programs while Texas really didn't. I had not thought of that before.
