Game Thread: Texas Longhorns vs. Rice Owls

It's gonna be a long week with everyone wanting CT11 to take all the credit for the amazing running.

I'd encourage you to not find ways to hate after a 58-0 victory. Thompson has led this team to scores 16 out of 18 times he's directed this offense. That in itself is pretty remarkable.

Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson both went over 100 yards on the night. I don't know how you don't give them all the credit for it.

I didn't watch or listen.  We’re there lineup changes other than QB?  OL perhaps?

Tuned in after the game to hear Bijan and C. Thompson on the post game interviews... both very classy.

No hate here. Using last years stats don't really apply. Handing off the ball barely does. I'm a realist. The backs and O-line deserve a ton of credit for over 400 yards on the ground. A huge turnaround. No doubt we should see other backs in the game often and early, they seemed to find holes Bijan wasn't seeing. We are very fortunate to have a plethora of talent in the backfield, and need to find a way to utilize it.

They talked about that stat last night during the game. He may not be the best QB in practice but last night Thompson showed this is his team.

They talked about expectations for CT11 being 300 yards passing too. It would be interesting to see Card behind these offensive adjustments. Still, at this point I'd say this is Thompson's job to lose. Just win baby.

I'm overjoyed by Texas success, but let's exhale that hopium a bit, Rice didn't put up much of a fight.

While there is no doubt that the joy should be tempered by the reality that it was Rice, there are several things that happened last night that have not been seen around these parts in a while.

1. Scoring on our opening drive to open each half.

2. Knocking out opposing QBs with legit hits, (hope both gentlemen are ok).

3. Dominating an opponent in the run game.

4. Beating a team we should beat by a margin we should.

5. Getting meaningful game reps to lots of players down the depth chart.

6. Minimal penalties and none that were drive killers or insurmountable.

I am sure there are others that could be listed and am absolutely aware that the quality of opponent made many possible but as others said last night (Coyote, Easttex, Texbound, Okie and Mig, I believe) these are the types of things we have not done in a long time. Certainly a welcome change from biting my nails while watching the Horns beat Kansas or Tulsa by a late score.

The koolade is flowing. IMO the great improve ment was caused by Rice.

If Hogs were next game I sure would not bet on Texas

I really like seeing alot of young guys getting significant snaps. Barryn Sorrell, DJ Harris, Byron Murphy, Ja’Tavion Sanders, Hayden Conner, Brooks, Morice Blackwell true freshmen and numerous RS FR. Creating good depth and I’m sure alot of these recruits are seeing that if they come in and work they may see the field early.
We got to keep just trying to improve week to week.

Bijan was 13 rushes for 127 yards and 3 touchdowns. He saw plenty of holes and scored one of the touchdowns when there wasn’t a hole.

Season rushing avg's.

Roschon 11.8

Keilan 7.0

Jonathan 7.0

Beijan 5.8

Casey 5.7

There are some people that need to be playing when the game still matters.

Went to the game last night and I saw some things I haven’t seen in a while. I saw a more talented Texas team dominate and put the game away early. I can’t recall many times in the last 10 yrs that had happened. They executed and played a clean game as evidenced by only 2 penalties. I saw a blocked punt!!
I was very curious how the team would react after getting thumped by Arky. I would saw the got the train back on the tracks. There is still much to work on as Rice was not very good. There is still a lot of improvement needed on the offensive line. It was hard to tell about defensive improvement as Rice’s offense was not real good. But you can’t argue they did their job with a shut out!

Another thing that sometimes gets overlooked is blowouts like that give opportunities for the younger players to get game reps. You can practice all you want but those reps are so different than game reps.
All in all a great night! Good atmosphere around the stadium and went with my now alumni daughters.
Ready for the Raiders next week.

Hook ‘em!

I’m not against Casey starting. I trust the coaches to figure it out. Whatever it takes to win.
Having said that. I’m really surprised the amount of people that have trashed Hudson Card this week. A young QB in a hostile environment that none of the team or coaches were ready for with the Offensive line laying an egg and people actually trash Card. He didn’t play his best game but I lay more of that on the OL and Sarkisian who could have got him some easy throws to loosen things up. I said last week that Sark was rattled and I still believe that. There’s been people trashing Card saying he needs to transfer. This kid is highly rated and is going to be a really good QB. I bet a high percentage of people doing that have never put on a helmet and shoulder pads in there life. These things of trashing a young kid after half of a football game is not normal. The same people are begging for Arch Manning. I hope we get him but kids aren’t going to want to play somewhere where they are trashed. I hope Casey plays good and we win the game and Card comes in and plays good…….and OL plays better.
Best post I’ve seen on this site. The viciousness aimed at a Freshman QB in his first road game with the worst Oline in years is unbelievable and downright shameful. I’m a Card fan but I like Casey too and happy for him…BTW Casey hasn’t been tested yet, some of you that think he’s the Messiah might wait a few games.

I don't think anyone has trashed Hudson Card. People have their opinions on his play the same as you. It shouldn't upset you if they feel differently than you and express as much. I haven't seen anything shameful.

I also don't think anyone here on this site has attempted to associate Thompson with the word "messiah."

He has simply played better than Card. No more. No less.

Like I said just yesterday, Card needs to improve because Texas is going to need him before this season is over. We're not going to make it with just one QB.

There’s been quite a few people trash him. Even my daughter was seeing stuff saying people were posting stuff at him Twitter, Instagram??? I’m not for sure which but they were saying your trash, your no good, you need to transfer etc.. Probably kids posting that but I wouldn’t put it past some adults. I just don’t get going at some kid that is trying his hardest and in the way that Arkansas game unfolded. After one half of football that alot of it wasn’t even his fault people are ready to dump him. I think kids need more time especially when I and I’m sure others can see there is alot of ability there.
