Following the first of Steve Sarkisian’s weekly Monday press conferences, the depth chart for Saturday’s matchup against #23 Louisiana was released.

As expected former Lake Travis quarterback Hudson Card (redshirt freshman) will make his first career start at Texas against the Ragin’ Cajuns, but junior Casey Thompson will see playing time as well.

The starting wide receiver corps will consist of sophmore Jordan Whittington, junior Joshua Moore and true freshman Xavier Worthy.

The secondary for the Longhorns will feature senior Anthony Cook at nickel, Brenden Schooler (senior) at free safety, BJ Foster (senior) at box safety and seniors D’Shawn Jamison and Josh Thompson at corner.

Full depth chart can be found below.

Things I Find Interesting:

  • Cade Brewer continues to start at TE: He has been a reliable blocker at tight end but has also shown glimpses of what he can do in the passing game. Jared Wiley, who might be a the bigger long-term play at TE, is listed as the backup but will surely receive his fair share of snaps.
  • Andrej Karic misses out on starting O-Line spot: This isn't necessarily surprising by any means but the redshirt freshman showed promise at the end of last season. Of course, with Kerstetter back in the rotation, someone had to be relegated to second-string duties.
  • Luke Brockermeyer starting at MLB: Brockermeyer's name has frequently appeared throughout the offseason as he has impressed the Texas coaching staff. It is just neat to see how far he has seemingly progressed during his time at Texas, from a joining the team as a walk-on to getting the starting nod to begin this season. Although it should be noted that Luke had Division 1 scholarship offers that he passed up on and might not be the typical walk-on player.
  • Hudson Card starts at Holder: It is not uncommon to have a quarterback at holder on special teams, but it is uncommon to see a starting quarterback in this role.

What do y'all think of the week 1 depth chart? There's obviously a lot to look at heading into this season! ??

Defence should be outstanding 12 positions? Also Parr second center. and Jer. Thompson second at two positions.

What has happened to Prince Dorbah. I had high hopes we could bring some pass rushing juice that we have lacked.

Not even listed.

Same with J Sanders
Helm and Davis both had solid springs as early enrollees and Sanders did not arrive until the summer. The season ending injury to Liebrock will create some interesting decisions the staff will have to make in regards to potential playing time for the freshman TE's. I still believe that Sanders will play this year and the coaching staff will find a role for him in the offense.

Solid defense. Starting 2 deep oline looks  good. Hope both play up to their potential across the board.  Somewhat surprised to see both Casey Cain and Troy Omeire listed as 1 is out and the other should be be barely used  if at all. Guess its a message to those that are upper level classmen to get an understanding of what the staff  wants or move on.

Have no problem with L. Brock as starting  think he has earned it.

Get the feeling that J. Sanders will be used as needed depending upon the score and how the game is going. No problem with Brewer amd Whiley being the main TEs in this game. Same goes with Prince Dorhan. With the 3-4 transfer portal guys at outside LB/densive end Prince can get a better understanding of what the staff  needs  him to do while getting bigger  and stronger.

Plus i like that Coach Sark has said they (staff) will reevaluate the roster and how they perform after the game.  That should be refreshing to everyone; that this staff wants to see constantly and standards that they want.
