QB1 still undecided as Fall Camp marches on

I was at VY's 1st ever practice game. Very few knew to stay late after it started raining because VY was due to get his 1st snap's as a Longhorn. Amazing performance that night. So I know a little.

I have known of Card through his high school days. Were you at the practice? It was obvious who was top dog. They haven't even started the running game/escape stuff yet. His spirals are poetic, He hit's everyone in their neck. His footwork and step reach is amazing, he covered 8ft with 1 step Tue. to sidestep a sack. That QB at Bama hasn't taken a snap either, and he's an NFL prospect and millionaire already. Card is the #2 dual threat QB in the country. Sam knew last year who he was and chose to go pro. He's a Trevor Lawrence type. It's going to be an amazing 3-4 years!

So you've been to a practice?

If so, was there a distinguishable difference in Card and Thompson? You said it was obvious who was top dog, why was it obvious or maybe what made it obvious?

Thank you for the feedback. Every bit of that was interesting. I'm excited.

Yes Tuesday night. Anybody that's been around football saw it. They ran plays right after one another, the same drills and throws performed by both 30 or so plays each. Card's sprirals and Casey's ducks, especially against the wind. Turnovers/int. pick 6's throws by Casey are a deal killer. The arch and length on the long ball for Card. Perfect placement where the defender can't get it. Throws on a rope on the inside patterns. Zip on the ball. The only throw he missed all night was rolling right and throwing across his body all the way to the left sideline, and he missed in a spot that couldn't be picked off, one of the toughest throws possible. The receiver could have come back and made it. Outside shoulder short.

Again, we haven't seen him use his legs yet, and that is one of the best parts. And he is great at the look off and last second switch with a quick release, if not all the way from the top. Throws off his back foot, Casey was moon walking backwards while throwing. He's the real deal.

There are 3-4 known NFL prospects on the team. Card is one of them. 2nd to 3rd round projection. Sark called to see if he was solid with his commitment before announcing. He has to earn it, but this ship has sailed.

He is gonna sell a shitload of t-shirts when this goes live! This is the next VY.
"Sark called to see if he was solid with his commitment before announcing."

Not sure what this means. Can you elaborate?

Hope this does not turn to a Applewhite Simms debate.

Thompson threw two picks. Card threw two plcks that were drops.

Sark says they are even. Pretty does not win football games . Bradely was  beautiful QB and turned in to a all world DB.

I've heard it said by coaches when I played, colleagues when I coached, and fans that when its even or close, you go with the future. That said, your first statement is spot on East. A replay of the Applewhite, Simms situation could set this team back another half dozen or more years. 21 is a pivotal year recruiting, development, and and program wise with the move to the SEC.

There is no experience difference. Casey's field time all together equals less than a whole game.

There was a dad involved in the Simms deal too....

"However, Thompson’s individual performance didn’t translate to wins.

Newcastle went just 3–7 and missed the Class 4A playoffs his senior year after following head coach Jeff Brickman from Southmoore, but it didn’t dissuade any potential colleges from the four-star prospect. He finished his illustrious high school career with 18 power five offers, including Ohio State, Penn State and Miami."

I just can’t forget how Thompson looked taking over the last half of our bowl game. He looked tremendous. So the talent is there. Maybe it was just a fluke but I hope not.

I agree, but Card's arm talent is phenomenal.

Jerrod Heard looked great too.

Maybe my memory is faulty but I don’t ever recall him looking like Thompson did during our bowl game.
I remember the game well.

In only his second start at QB, Heard broke Vince Young's single game record for offense for the Texas Longhorns, accounting for 527 yards of total offense. Texas lost a heartbreaker 45–44 to California[7] by missing an extra point after Heard rushed for a 45-yard touchdown with 1:11 remaining in the 4th quarter, his third rushing TD of the game.

We were pretty excited about Garrett Gilbert going into the 2010 season as well, based in his performance in the title game. That did not translate well. Sometimes when a backup QB comes in it's it's like a curve ball to the defense. They didn't prepare for it and can be taken off guard.

I think we'd all like to see whether or not it was a fluke. However going to a new system and him having only played sparingly, it's not like he has a huge advantage in terms of experience.

There should be no debate... about that debate. Applewhite had been a starter and won huge games for us. We've barely seen Thompson play.

Now I have a vague memory. Probably had too many Dos XX.

Didn't Mack decide to go to a power run offense after the NCG loss? That's what messed up Gilbert.
