2017 Recruiting Thread Part 1

Anyone on commitment watch after this weekend?

I'd say Johnson is.

I was told he won't take a USC visit, but I couldn't blame him if he did. Not sure SC even has room for him. But to have a trip to SOCAL paid for and be treated like a star, . . I might do that if it were me. But I was told the kid was super charged about Texas during his visit.

Ok, just got off the phone with one of my friends. I'll put them in brief bullet points.

– Described the current class as "decent." And thats including those he thinks will finish out the class. Said its a very good class with a couple of players the staff feels are very underrated (Daniel Young, and the LB we got). He said it was hard to call Toneil Carter underrated when he's a 4-star, but he said he's underrated. Power and speed we haven't seen in a while.

– Thinks Gary Johnson will cancel SC visit and commit to Texas.

– Chaisson is all Texas and was recruiting before his visit to LSU. Chaisson to Texas.

– Not nearly as confident with the Calloway recruitment. But thinks the kid is a steal if we can get him.

– Staff is not pressed at DT, but likes the one they're recruiting right now a bunch. If not him, then may pass and look to next year. Last year's DT class makes this possible.

– Repeated something he's said before to me. We'll have a top 3 class next year.

– Said to expect an OOS TB to be in the class next year. Said there will be as many as six OOS members of that class, most of whom will be Drayton's recruits. He said the lowest ranked of those OOS'ers will be a 4-star. Says we'll take back the state, but cherry pick the OOS'ers and do that moreso than Mack or Charlie ever did.

– Just gushed over the recruiting prowess of this staff. Said if Texas could have had 9 or 10 wins this year, we'd still be in it for Browning and the others we've whiffed on to date. Perhaps already have them. Said we'll see 9-10 wins this year and it will propel the recruiting even moreso. He was really stoked about this, the future.

– Concerned about the QB position. Said we'll get by, but if Kyle Allen had transferred, he'd start. He said you can't say that and feel good about it.
The last comment about QB position has been my thoughts all along as this new Coaching Staff is not sold on Buechele and would not be surprised to see Ehlinger as the starter next fall.

OB thinks he still takes that USC visit & decide on NSD

Calloway --

"..... “Really there’s no team out in front. Once I get back from Texas, I’ll come down from the high of all the stuff of what they’re telling me. I’m going to sit down, go over the pros and cons of Ole Miss and Texas. Once I take the Arkansas visit, I'll do the same thing with that one.â€

“It definitely did (give me a lot to think about). At first I was concerned with number of DBs. I don't mind competition, but I’m trying to get on the field.  It’s a new group of coaches, so they said they don't know anybody, whoever is the best is going to start. It’s not about seniors, not relationships. Everybody is equal right now.â€

(per OB)

So, are we feeling better about T. Graham now?
Graham said he really enjoyed meeting new staff and talking about how he'd be used in Orlando's scheme. Not sure if he will visit TCU and ou

Nahlin says "The visit was a homerun for his mother."

Sounds like JUCO DT Jamari Chisolm did not receive an offer

It's the age-old getting UT to accept a JUCO transfer issue

Offer still possible, but I guess the new coaches didnt fully understand the hurdles here

The gurus sound more positive with regard to JUCO Larrell Murchison

Justin Wells says his mom loved Giles

Bimage, Leitao, and Estell all got their 4th star from Rivals.

According to Rivals, 8 of our current 13 commits are now 4-stars

That rises our "average" to #9 (versus #42 overall based on just 13 commits)

Of the 5 three-stars, one is the K and we think at least two of the others (Young and Brewer) are sill underrated.

Plus, of course, all this will change again over next couple weeks (although I think Rivals is the one site that does not do any updates after NSD, so this might be it for them on individual player rankings)

LSU Board guy who had earlier CBd Chaisson to Texas, has now switched to LSU

And, another LSU guy added another one today

----------------

On the other side is Steve Wiltfong (natil guy):

" ......  I'm not feeling so good about my prediction of LSU for K'Lavon Chaisson. I'm close to flipping to Texas there. I'm honestly delaying it as I've been on LSU for so long and while I think it may be 50-50 I thought LSU needed to move the needle this weekend. Perhaps if they land Wilson it could help."

It was just 1 change in the pick. It was from SEC country, he even said Texas was leader coming in and mom is stressing academics. May be more of a post visit high thing and getting caught up in the moment of a good visit. The LSU 247 guy isn't very confident with Chaisson going to LSU and Steve Wiltfong is close to changing his pick to LSU which he's had for a long time. Good thing we get him on visit after LSU one.
