Where did they go? Keeping up with the former staff.

I know most won't be interested but I figured this would be a nice little thread to keep up with where the former coaching staff is going. Despite it not working out, some of us did grow to have an affection for many of the staff members and I personally am genuinely hoping each of them will find success going forward. I'll leave a few predictions if I think I have any semblance of an idea until we get some legitimate info.

Head Coach - Charlie Strong

Favorite: Cincinnati

Could See It: Tennessee

Dark Horse: Baylor

Final: USF

My favorite school for Charlie Strong is Cincinnati for obvious reasons. They're likely viewing a coaching change and it would return Strong back to the ACC where he would have a greater access to the Florida pipeline. Cincinnati would undoubtedly be patient with Strong as he fixed their program. My "could see it", is Tennessee. As for no other reason than Charlie could build that program into something special, again, without the pressure of fixing things immediately. He'd also get back to the SEC and would have a pipeline into Florida again. This hinges on Tennessee firing Butch Jones. My dark horse is a familiar name, Baylor. Think about it, what coach out there right now would almost immediately rectify the perception issues surrounding the program in Waco. He's familiar with many of the recruits and again, would have the time to work with that program as it tries to regain it's....few years of glory.

Strong will be coaching at USF, which is probably as good of a fit as you could imagine..

Offensive Coordinator - Sterlin Gilbert

Favorite: Baylor

Dark Horse: Houston

Final:

Whether it's Chad Morris, Larry Fedora or whomever, Gilbert simply makes since as the new Offensive Coordinator at Baylor. He knows the scheme, he knows the players and he's a natural fit to take over. My dark horse is Houston should Applewhite get a call from a Power 5 school.

Defensive Coordinator - Vance Bedford

Favorite: w/Strong

Dark Horse: N/A

Final:

I simply can't imagine a scenario in which Bedford doesn't join Strong's staff somewhere. They built something pretty great in Louisville, even if it didn't work at out Texas. I'm sure Strong would be willing to give it another try.

Defensive Line Coach - Brick Haley

Favorite: LSU

Dark Horse: Missouri

Final: Missouri

I'm of the opinion that Brick Haley will make a return to the Tigers. With Orgeron being promoted, it leaves open room for a Defensive Coach. Haley had a great reputation at LSU and would fit right back into that coaching staff. On the other hand, Missouri just fired their defensive line coach and Haley is undoubtedly one of the top DL coaches in the business.

Brick ended up at Mizzou in somewhat predictable fashion.

Linebackers Coach - Brian Jean-Mary

Favorite: w/Strong

Dark Horse: N/A

Final:

This is the same situation as Vance Bedford. BJM is more or less destined to join Charlie Strong's staff wherever he goes.

Tight Ends/Special Teams - Jeff Traylor

Favorite: LSU

Dark Horse: SMU

Final:

LSU just let go of their Special Teams coach. LSU loves to recruit East Texas and Traylor would give them an extra boost in that area. He also proved to be very efficient in Kickoff and Punting this year for Texas, despite kicking issues. SMU is another school that makes sense. Traylor would fit right in with Morris' staff at SMU and SMU would benefit greatly from having someone who can target East Texas. It would be a good "in" when Morris' inevitably takes a bigger job.

Offensive Line Coach - Matt Mattox

Favorite: w/Gilbert

Dark Horse: Houston

Final:

Odds are, Mattox ends up with Gilbert somewhere. If not, keep an eye on Houston. We already know Herman is bringing his OL Coach with him to the 40. Mattox would be a great fit in Houston.

Defensive Backs Coach - Clay Jennings

Favorite: N/A

Dark Horse: N/A

Final:

Wide Receivers Coach - Charlie Williams

Favorite: N/A

Dark Horse: N/A

Final:

Running Backs Coach - Anthony Johnson

Favorite: N/A

Dark Horse: N/A

Final:

It's difficult to gauge the market for Jennings, Johnson and Williams. All are decent coaches but I didn't see enough of them to tell you where they would fit.

For those that are interested, I'll try to keep an eye on all of these individuals to see where these guys land.

Hook'em!

I like the idea of this thread Blake. I will be interested where everyone ends up.

Why? Do you know any of them on a personal level?

* AAC

Why does working in Ohio give Strong greater access than he had in ATX? Road games with UCF & USF? Well, maybe he'll get lucky and one of those jobs will open up. FAU has an opening.

My "could see it", is Tennessee. As for no other reason than Charlie could build that program into something special, again, without the pressure of fixing things immediately.
I don't know why you think UTe will be less pressure than UT, but maybe that's the case. Do you know Derek Dooley or Butch Jones? Most SEC fan-bases are nuts, with the possible exception of Vanderbilt.

Finally, I'd LOVE to see Strong at Baylor because....well, I won't go there.

*cough* 5-7, 16-21

Really JB? Is this post really needed?

I don't have to know a man to know of his character. His character is outstanding and it's been proven repeatedly in his efforts and actions.

Correct, my mistake.

I mean you answered your own question. It's better pipeline access when kids know they'll be able to come back home and play a game in front of their families.

There is no greater pressure in College Football than Texas. Period.

His record and failures have been discusssed until everyone here was blue in the face. This thread is simply a thread for those who are interested to see where our former staff are going. There are a plethora of other threads where Charlie's failures can be laughed at, mocked and ranted about. I'd rather this thread didn't turn into another one of those.

Hey Dalton I care for where Traylor goes. I've been a fangirl of his for quite some time

Thanks BevoBlake, good post. If someone doesn't care where each coach goes, they don't have to click on the thread.

I hope none of them go to Baylor. I think Traylor at LSU hurts aggy more than it would us.

There's a regent at Louisville who probably disagrees with you.

Oh...and why such affinity for one-year coaches Gilbert & Mattox? I see you've got nothing for Jennings, Williams, & Johnson.

But, I'll check out because - to your point - I really could care less where any of these guys ultimately go. Unless, of course, it helps UT.

Yeah I know the guy personally. At least he DID open up the East Texas pipeline in recruiting. So you gotta give him credit for that

Haven't we learned we shouldn't believe everything we read on the internet? Especially when it's a piece of info from a nasty divorce that didn't prove anything actually occurred?
Regardless, nobody is fanboying in this thread. It's simply a thread to keep track of where our former staff goes as this was undoubtedly a very interesting staff, despite its failures. I can like Strong while easily admitting that he didn't end up being a good fit at Texas. I can like Strong while loving Texas. I'm really excited about our new staff. I think it's going to be a really exciting and successful turn for the program. But I'm intrigued by where these coaches will end up. I'm intrigued in finding out where a Coach like Strong and Bedford will go to revitalize their careers. I'm intrigued to find out where last years Offensive Saviors (Gilbert/Mattox) will land after a single year at a P5 school. I'm especially interested in finding out where our best recruiter (Traylor) will go as he could land somewhere that could be a pain in our side going forward.

There are storylines here that are intriguing to me and to a few others. That doesn't make us any less devoted to the University of Texas football program.

Thanks for the info Blake! I think that Charlie's a good coach/good man and wish that he'd been the right one for Longhorns. Love him or hate him, he did a great job of cleaning house and putting together the player's that Herman's inheriting and is going to win with...he's leaving the program in better shape than it was when he took over.

Looking forward to the updates!

I hope the players left behind when Strong left are as good as most people think they are. Looking at the scoreboard sometimes it may be hard to tell what % of losses are coaching and what part is talent ( or lack of). Guess we'll see.
Same. We're going to find out a lot about this team next year. My big question, which is probably better suited for a different thread, is how much time will Herman be given to succeed?

Definitely agree. We're all very hopeful that it's just a coaching issue but I started getting concerned about player character being a big issue after the Kansas game and then they followed it up by rolling over for TCU. Makes me think the task ahead of Herman may be a little more difficult than most want to believe.

You never like to see a team play without heart. Which I think is what happened against TCU. I'm sure it was an emotional day for them but man, it was tough to watch.
