People need to understand that games like this will pay long term dividends down the line. Yeah, losing blows, big time. But games like these versus quality opponents will allow the team to reflect on them and gain some understanding of how a play here or there can shape the outcome. Sure, these kids have been playing baseball all of their lives, but on this stage, it's very different.

Rarely in college baseball do you see a team play mistake free. Cal had their moments tonight as well; dropped pop fly on shallow LCF, allowed a pop fly to drop between three players in shallow CF and an IF hit that was basically a hard hit grounder to SS that he just couldn't handle. Those plays allowed Texas to gain momentum and almost allowed the Horns to make the comeback.

On the flip side, a misplay on a fly ball to shallow LF, a Boswell errant throw and Tres not getting back to 2B were costly in both the comeback and in allowing runs early in the game. Hell, even Johnston, as good as he was in the later innings of his start, left an 0-2/1 out FB up and it got ripped for a single in T6. That turned into another couple of runs and that inning proved to be the difference in the game.

Bottom line, just chill out a bit and watch a very young team come together and gel. It's not going to happen overnight. The goal here is to be ready when conference play begins in a three weeks.  And when we get past the injuries to Mathis and Rand, I think you'll see a big difference.
