I think a lot of teams aspire to be as good as the #1 scoring and yardage offense in the country.Apparently, we aspire to be as good as Baylor these days. It is what it is.

This is about as informative of a post as you're going to get. Well done Hip. I understand people wanted a splash. This is a tide. And eventually it's going to show itself to be a wave. The more I look at this guys body of work, the more happy I am with this hire. The fact of the matter is that most of the best offenses in College football are run by a HC. We tried to hire one of the few exceptions by offering Sonny Cumbie at TCU.
We also were looking for a OC that runs a run-based spread and preferably had ties to this state.
Top Offenses in College Football:
Bowling Green - HC Dino Babers runs offense
Baylor - Art Briles
Texas Tech - Kliffy
TCU - Sonny & Doug
Southern Mississippi
Western Kentucky
Cincy
Clemson
Oregon
Oklahoma - Lincoln Riley is OC
Tulsa had the 16th ranked offense in College Football.
When Mike Spradlin left UH (and Art Briles) he hired Sterlin Gilbert as his OC to install and run the Briles offense.
When Dino Babers left Baylor he hired Gilbert to install and run the Briles offense at EIU.
When Babers left EIU to go to Bowling Green he brought Gilbert with him to install and help run the Briles offense.
When Phil Montgomery finally left Baylor to become HC at Tulsa he hired Gilbert to install and help run the Briles offense.
When Phil Montgomery was asked (when he was an OC at Baylor) who should run this offense if anything ever happened to him - he said "Sterlin Gilbert, that guy is a stud".
Sterlin Gilbert isn't a big name to the general public, or even recruits, but among the people who coach the offense we are looking to run - he's a star.
People piss & moan that we didn't try and hire Lincoln Riley, and we watched as he went to Oklahoma and became Assistant Coach of the year. Sterlin Gilbert is Lincoln Riley three years ago. Gilbert, along with Montgomery, took a 2-10 team that finished 78th in the country in offense in 2014 and turned them into the 16th best offense in the country in 2015.
That about sums up what Im thinking... Thanks. Im hoping he can build the excitement.Apparently, we aspire to be as good as Baylor these days. It is what it is.
"Bigger" coaching names with more OC experience probably wouldn't agree to come to UT knowing that Strong is on a short leash.
No argument'Offensively' - you're damn right we do.
Bingo!Apparently, we aspire to be as good as Baylor these days. It is what it is.

Absolutely, we've been pissing and moaning about the offense for a while now. What we wouldn't give to have Baylor's offense - Don't understand why that would be a bad thing at all.'Offensively' - you're damn right we do.
Football scoop continues to maintain that it was never even offered to Gilbert.Rumor going around offer was rejected.
You know Texas Football's in the shitter when Hip Hop says we're f##ked.Football scoop continues to maintain that it was never even offered to Gilbert.
Either way - perception is we f##ked this all up.
We're f##ked.
Man that seems like a lot of bullshit... Even if its not what happened, it feels like and what it will look like is that we offered got shut down and then like an embarrassed little boy "i never wanted to go out with you anyways!"You know Texas Football's in the shitter when Hip Hop says we're f##ked.
We've officially hit rock bottom
In an alternate reality... a jet plane is on the way to Tulsa... with Coach, AD and President.
On The Horn, 104.9 FM Austin this minute. Not sure who knows exactly who all is on the plane.
But radio guys are saying all three are.
