Sonny Cumbie and Texas

A poster on another site said that a friend of his overheard a conversation today between somebody and Cumbie that, while he didn't actually say it, made it sound like Cumbie was turning down the Texas job. This was while he was out recruiting for TCU.

If Cumbie is supposedly out Recruiting, Im sure TCU recruits would be posting pics on twitter/Social Media with Cumbie like every other kid does with their recruiter.

  1. He has an offer from UT on the table
  2. Visits Austin yesterday
  3. Meets with GP and TCU admin for a counter offer
  4. Goes out recruiting for TCU later
Doesnt look promising.

You'd think a "No" would have been announced already then....

True.  Maybe he just likes watching everyone sweat it out.

It is weird if he is seriously considering taking the job why he is out recruiting for TCU.  Isnt that a conflict of interest?

College Football Media is watching this story close. No way he's out recruiting and the media doesn't know.

Hard for me to bite on that one

Per Jeremy Clark TCU 247 site

Cumbie did meet with Patterson but meeting was not about making a decision but more about updating Patterson. Cumbie was out recruiting today. NO decision as of 15 minutes ago. Cumbie is not going to Austin tonight even though Horns 247 said there is a flight going there

If he is out recruiting forTCU and then takes the Texas job he was essentially lying to every recruit today.

So the recruiting today is just a rumor or actually witnessed?

Watson was out recruiting for us last week when he, we, and everyone else knows he's gone. If s recruit directly asks Cumbie I'm sure he'll tell the kid he's still deciding - and then sell the university. Coaches come and go.

Thats my question too. His every step for the past 2 days has been documented by every media outlet in TX. You have to move around alot when your recruiting. How would that go unnoticed? I could be wrong. This is just my opinion

Wouldn't have been a conflict of interest. He's still employed by TCU.

Yea, I'm not sure I'm buying the story about him out recruiting today. Would be way too awkward for him as I'm sure he would get asked about it.

Highly doubtful he's out recruiting for TCU today after meeting with GP and still "Undecided" about his future.  Not sure GP would want him out talking to TCU recruits

Well, I don't know who Will Baizer is, but he just created a thread confirming Cumbie was at CHHS recruiting for TCU today.

Just my take:  I'm not sure if I were Texas I would still be waiting on Cumbie, if he is holding our offer and is out actively recruiting for TCU.  He can't be the only highly qualified OC out there.  Could he be stalling our recruiting, pushing us to the quite time and thus hurting our progress?
