I'll Go Ahead and Say It, Re; Tom Herman

Hey Blake;

Scott Frost the former Nebraska Husker quarterback?
The very same. I was lobbying for Strong to go get him to be our Offensive Coordinator two years ago. At this point, he's been successful enough that he'll likely only be taking a Head Coaching gig to leave Oregon.

I wish that I knew what motivated TXHSFB players these days.

It sure as hell ain't wearing the burnt orange and white anymore. I just don't know if Charlie's old school approach is sexy enough in this day and age. Not sure I wanna wait a couple more years to find out.
If Texas was on the level of Bama and Ohio State year in and year out, Texas would be out-recruiting every Texas school in the state of Texas. No ands, ifs, or buts about it.

Interesting chart comparing some of the teams Herman's team played this season

Everybody is on the Tom Herman bandwagon. Please don't take it the wrong, he is doing great, but if we change coaches we absolutely positively must get this next hire right. Have to hit a homerun hire. Our program has been bad for a long time now. College football landscape has changed with kids going all over the place to school.....no more growing up dreaming of going to any certaino school. Baylor, TCU, A&M, Tech, Houston getting players we want, running high flying offenses that kids want to run and or running in high school now. Maybe Herman is the best hire. I don't know. I do know this next one can't be wrong. I put a list the other days of some names off the top of my head on here. Has to be a GRANDSLAM boys and girls.
We needed the last hire to be a GRANDSLAM! And it wasn't, by a long shot.

You are right though. The next hire needs to be a homerun hire. Or Charlie needs to turn into a homerun hire. Haven't seen any evidence so far that will happen.

When I say Homerun hire, I mean who would you hire if your life depended on it. As close to a sure thing as possible.

Saban-yea right that ship sailed

Urban- could we get him?

Pete Carroll- could we get him?

John Harbaugh- could we get him?

Who else? Bunch of names out there, but not many for sure things. We have to have a for sure thing if we change again. Flame me if you want too, but we are the 6th best team in Texas right now.

Tom Herman is going to be considered for many openings and should he land at Texas that would be fine with me even though he is not my first choice but I have to say I would be very excited if he was named the next Longhorn Head Coach.  Now, just for the sake of arguement think about some reasons as to why he might just choose to stay at Houston.  With a $3 million dollar salary plus I am sure a nice car, country club membership, and other small deals I am sure he could be quite happy staying in Houston. With Houston having more success the opportunity to play power 5 conference teams  and some who will be ranked will certainly give them opportunities for being higher ranked and playoff potential if they win. Beat a few ranked teams in a non conference game and I think Houston would certainly be talked about as a playoff team if they are successful (undefeated).  Gary Patterson had all kinds of job offers way back but he stuck with TCU and being in a weaker conference but made the most of it. I think with the right guy and Tom Herman seems to be the right guy Houston has even more potential than TCU.  If Tom Herman just stays at Houston he could own that city and create a winning program much like  Patterson did with TCU and Chris Petersen did at Boise but he would have much better recruiting talent to choose from here in Texas.
I have read that Tom Herman has a "dream" school where he would like to the head coach at. And it's not Houston. But it is in Texas  ;)

Saban-yea right that ship sailed. He'd listen.
Urban- could we get him? No
Pete Carroll- could we get him? No
John Harbaugh- could we get him? Probably not.

Saban is no longer a home run hire, IMO. His best days are behind him. What is there left to accomplish? Timing is everything for someone like him.

One must define home run hire before proceeding to make a home run hire. A "sure thing" there is not. So IF you're looking for closest to sure, you find the success where combined with some youth/hunger.

I don't want a coach who had his best success elsewhere and is looking for a place to ride out into the sunset with a ridiculous paycheck.

I disagree on Saban not being a sure thing. He would be as sure as there is anywhere. Saban isn't the type of coach or personality to go ride a pay check. He has won at LSU, won at Bama. I think he would view Texas as down, but able to be turned around fairly quickly the way he recruits. Win one at Texas and go down as one of the best of all times. Never could I imagine him riding out for money. He is all about winning.

"He is all about winning"....why he will stay at bama

personally I think Saban may be too Old to be interested in Starting Over somewhere else. We need more of a long term solution.

These coaches have egos though. Yes he can stay at Bama and keep winning, but if he could go to Texas and win one at a 3rd different school, he would go down in history as one of if not the best of all times. That is Saban. Other coaches see an opportunity to come in and turn Texas around and get paid better than almost anywhere else to do it. We can still get coaches boys.

I think Saban's wife Terry  said the next move will be her decision not his... and I for one believe this to be true. With what just happened at LSU last night and their coaching decision who knows what will take place in Austin in the next month, but again if I am Herman, deciding to remain in Houston might be the smartest move of all.

If Herman's "dream job" truly is UT, he'd be smart to stay put at UH to see how things shake out with Strong.

It will give him a chance to further penetrate TXHSFB recruiting channels and develop relationships with high school coaches. Houston ain't a bad place to live on $3MM per year.

Supposedly Strong has told the players he is coming back.

Will be interesting to follow the paths of Herman and Strong from this point in time forward.

We really need to talk about assistant coaching changes he is going to make.

Who is the best OC out there we can get? Cumbie? Others?

I want some guys that can recruit good. We must swing the pendulum in recruiting our way.

I'm sure he is coming back for 2016.

The problem is the recruits dont seem to have much faith in how long he will be at Texas.  Elliott and Whaley both committed elsewhere which were supposed to heavy Texas leans or silent commits.

Maybe 3 star Charlie will pan out eventually or its all been a kool-aid induced dream.  I mean seriously where has anyone seen player development thus far in 2 years?  QB?  OL?  DL?

When you see Charlie rubbing his bald head and quietly talking to himself with a "WTF just happened" look on his face during the EoT after the tech game you have to consider maybe Charlie is in over his head and should just move on.

Im sure most on here are concerned with the prospect of Strong having another dismal season in 2016 and Herman getting picked off by another school.

I am one of them.

The decisions made during this little window of time are going to follow Mike Perrine around for the rest of time, for better or worse.
