Ok State Homecoming Parade Tragedy-4 now dead

Posted this in the game thread when it happened, but I thought I'd make a separate thread. 

I am still kind of numb about this.  4 dead, 8 in critical condition, upwards of 30 injured. 

The driver of the car is a 25 yr old woman, that was arrested on DUI charges.  This occurred at ~10:30 AM. Who in the heck is hammered at that time of day, and why get behind the wheel of a vehicle?!!!  :angry: :angry:

Supposedly she was sent home from her job this morning because they suspected she was on drugs. 

There are little children that are among the deceased and injured, including a 2 yr old that passed. 

Unbelievable.

I would have to imagine that the place of employment will be named in any of the negligence lawsuits that follow.

That's a tough position to be in. You can't force someone to take alternate transportation. You can however alert the police if you think somebody is under the influence while driving. Terribly tragic.

Agree, just stating the best case scenario which could have averted this tragedy.

Thanks Joey. When you put faces to the numbers that are in the article it tears at your heart. Reminder these numbers are people with lives and people who love them. So many lives have been changed. Thank you for reminding me to keep all these families in prayer.

And yes, even the driver. Such a senseless tragedy on what should be a fun, festive day.

Of the 47 people treated after the crash, 17 remained hospitalized and four were in critical condition Sunday, officials said.

Eleven of those treated for injuries were 13 and younger, including a 1-year-old, a 3-year-old and four 6-year-olds, Stillwater police said.

First thing I thought of when I heard that the employer sent her home.  I have been in the position of having to suspend and send home a couple of individuals due to being under the influence. In both cases, I had to threaten them that I would call 911, if they left on their own.  They had someone drive them home.  

This is a tragic situation and I would like to think that it could have been avoided.

Seeing the faces does make it that much more real, more tragic and more heartbreaking and the pic of the little boy brings me to tears.  Sending prayers out to the entire OSU family.

If there's any school that could use a break on the tragedy front it's OSU...

Absolutely horrible.... Makes you hold your loved ones a little tighter. Especially now that I'm a father of a 1 year old.
