ESPN's Stephen A. Smith: Texas should replace Charlie Strong

ESPN Stephen A. Smith said Texas should part ways with head coach Charlie Strong on First Take.

"Texas should wait until the season is over and then they should replace Charlie Strong," Smith said. "I think people are misconstruing what I'm saying ... In no way am I questioning the football acumen or the coaching ability of Charlie Strong. I'm just saying the odds are stacked against him."

Smith cited the fact that Texas is getting out recruited by other schools in the state including Houston as a reason Strong should go.

"We're talking the Texas Longhorns and you're being out recruited by Houston?" Smith said. "This ain't about Charlie Strong. I believe in this man. I believe in better circumstances he should stay. But the A.D. who hired him obviously hired him against the wishes of a bunch of boosters, alumni members, etc."

Smith said behind Strong's back the boosters and alumni members want to get rid of him.

"See the handwriting on the wall," Smith said. "They ain't going to support you, Charlie Strong. I don't care what they say get the hell out of there. Get out of there quick, fast and in a hurry."

Smith said the people around Strong want him to fail.

"There are great opportunities for [strong] elsewhere."

He is a POS....Saying Texas should replace Strong because he isn't a good fit and people didn't want him in the first place...Give me break..... Strong has lost ( in getting butt kicked fashion in most ) like 6 of the last 7 games, and it looks like we will finish 3-9 with a few more butt kickings. There is division in the locker room to make matters worse ( much of it caused by Charlie's handling of things ) If Texas replaces him it will be because it is obvious he can't coach at this level, not because he isn't a good fit.

Shortly after Strong was hired, Stephen A. Smith said UT should give Strong a chance and every resource to fix the mess and forget the politicking and just let him coach.  He also made a big point about (what else?) the difference between having a job and being black and having a job and being white.

The full post:

As for Charlie Strong:
For those wondering how successful he'll be as the new coach at Texas, I said let's give the man a chance and I stand by that. In four years at Louisville, the man was 37-15, went to a bowl game all four years, won three of them and finished his last two seasons 11-2 and 12-1. No one is questioning his abilities as a coach; just whether he'll be able to survive because he's all about football and not the politicking that comes along with the job.
It was at that time that I reminded @RealSkipBayless on ESPN First Take that there's a difference in corporate America between White and Black Folks: White Folks come to work with a job to do. Black Folks come with a responsibility.
It's Black Folks who are constantly implored to give a voice to the voiceless. Who constantly are reminded of their responsibilities to speak up and tackle issues for a group of folks devoid of a voice to do so themselves.
The thing is, that responsibility is too much for folks sometimes. Some folks want no part of it. They just want to be able to do their jobs and do it well, and leave the rest of it to other folks. And, most times, there's absolutely nothing wrong with it, because having to harbor that responsibility is a weight they simply can't handle. And when they're forced to do so, the worse parts of themselves are revealed.
So I made that point about Charlie Strong this morning, specifically, to point out that Texas should be lucky it has him. It should be solely focused on his ability to produce as a football coach, and should spend all of it's time catering to his needs than worrying about their own. That way, they'll win games. Their institution returns to prominence, and everyone wins -- a helluva lot more than they've been winning in recent memory.
That's all I have to say...........For now!

So now it's time to surrender to the politicking, huh?

That is disturbing on so many levels
I was referring to the picture, but I see it was removed.

I don't pay any attention to Smith anyways.  Just his voice is annoying enough.

If this weekend is a bad loss and recruiting is bad....then Charlie will not be on the 40 after FB Season.

If this happens, then I hope Herman, Appliwhite and Gilds  (SP) come to Texas for 26 years....Hook'em
