Chip Brown Strikes Again re:Patterson

Patterson is a "hot topic" for some reason, even throughout national media. Look no further than the frenzy about the Rice and Tech bands having to pay for tickets.

I'm not sure it's anything personal at all with Chip. These type stories are getting Chip attention which equals $. I don't think Chip gives a damn if there's half truths or exaggerations as long as it leads to clicks.

At the end of the day, there probably are some issues with Patterson. I still tend to believe the issues are being blown way out of proportion. The only thing that bothers me is that the national media repeats what Chip writes as fact, when he has a long history of being way off base on stories like these (see his reporting on A&M and Missouri's move to the SEC). There's a lot of confirmation bias in reference to Patterson and most of it is originating from Chip. That's kind of terrible to be honest.

I will say this, I do think Patterson will be fired because he's lost the crowd. Unfortunately, I think the biggest reason for this is false narratives online from people like Chip.

If anyone has a HornsDigest account they should ask Chip if he's asked to interview Paul Walker and Jeff Hunt. They are two people Chip referenced in his most recent article. I'm not friends with either but I have multiple acquaintances with both Paul and Jeff (from work, school, and family). I've only heard great things about both. I have a hard time believing some of the stuff Chip has reported if both Paul and Jeff are anyway involved with Patterson.
Yea, Patterson is going to fail because he can't deal with Chip Brown, but Patterson is the savvy media shark we need in charge of UT athletics. Lol.

Newsflash - Steve Patterson has failed because of Steve Patterson. It was a horrendous blunder to abandon the alumni as the financial base and preferred season ticket buyers to embrace corporate entertainment directors. That may work for a professional sports franchise but, at the end of the day, Greg Fenves needs the alumni more than he needs corporate entertainment directors. He picked the wrong time to spend two years on the job and have no signature achievement, to piss off the alumni and to utterly fail to instill fiscal discipline upon his department.

Patterson picked the wrong time to decide that marketing to promote UT football (the cash cow) was a waste of money. He also picked the wrong time to send his wife on an international shopping boondoggle to Dubai. He picked the wrong time to bloat the payroll to its highest level in history. He picked the wrong time to offend the other constituencies he needs to for initiatives such as the new basketball arena. he picked the wrong time at stand back and allow the university brand to be bashed consistently in the national press. He picked the wrong time to be consistently upstaged by the marketing juggernaut that is aggy.

Patterson has been a disaster. Chip Brown isn't why Steve Patterson has failed. Steve Patterson is why Steve Patterson failed as AD at Texas.

The President of the University has refused to give Patterson any support at all.  Thats all I need to know about how tenuous Pattersons hold on the AD job is at this point.  I don't think Chip is blowing anything out of proportion.

What is happening here at Texas isn't a surprise to anyone that knew or covered Steve in Portland or even in his short time at ASU.  Reporters and FO people in both cities tried to warn us that Steve was a snake who would surround himself with people just as disingenuous as he is.  Thats exactly what he has done at Bellmont.  The President of the university has seen it and by all accounts (and I mean more than just Chip Brown are reporting it) has put Patterson on notice.  Personally I think the only reason Patterson isn't gone right now is the 6 million dollars the university would owe him if they fire him.

I think they will try to work through Pattersons issues in at least the short term - but if there are any more defections of BMD's - Patterson's time here is done.  And when that day happens - I'll toast a drink to Randolph Dukes passing (I'm pretty sure if Patterson is ever fired RD will immediately shake off his earthly bonds transcend to a higher plane).
