As we all know, UT is full of students who enjoy staying active and playing competitive sports, especially through non-Varsity Club Sport competitions.  As everyone here cares about all things UT and supporting our students, I wanted to start a thread about those that give up their own time and money in order to play a sport they love.  I only know about a couple of Club teams at the moment, but if anyone has information regarding another UT Club team that they would like to share, please do!

I first wanted to mention UT's Ultimate Frisbee teams, both Men's and Women's.  I play plenty of Ultimate Frisbee here in Houston and I enjoy keeping up with what is going on in the highest levels of competition.  This weekend is the College national championships, and both teams have qualified for the umpteenth time in a row.  For as long as I have been following, both teams seem to qualify for nationals every year.  This year, Texas TUFF (Men's) comes in seeded 13th and Texas Melee (Women's) comes in seeded 19th.  Should either team make the final four, the semifinals games will be aired live on ESPN3 and replayed on tape delay on ESPN2.  Texas Fight!

(In case y'all are at all curious about Ultimate Frisbee, here's a highlight video from Will Driscoll, UT's senior captain from last year and finalist for the Callahan award for best player in the country.)

I'm sure y'all have heard about the UT Quidditch team (yup, I said it, Quidditch, like, from Harry Potter.)  Anyway, this has become a pretty popular Club sport around the country....and as it happens, we're pretty good at it.  I have a friend who plays on the team, and UT this year won their THIRD STRAIGHT national championship, with the added pleasure of beating an undefeated A&M team in the semi-finals!  They also had multiple players invited to play on Team USA for international competition.  LHN did a short feature on them not too long ago:

Hey...if we're gonna do something, might as well be the best at it, right?

My daughter is on the club volleyball team and they compete all over against other college club teams. Congrats to all the club teams out there. Had a friend who was on the rugby team when we were at UT. Club athletes are unsung heroes who rep the 40 acres with class. Hook 'em

I played on the men's club soccer team for a year, then quit and my grades improved with more time to study! The team won the club NC the year prior to me joining, and played other club teams from around the state of Texas prior to playoff matchups. I assume this team is still in existence.

TUFF (Men's) won their first two games of pool play today and will resume pool play tomorrow against #1 Pittsburgh and against #17 Auburn. After that, likely a round of 16 knockout game tomorrow or hopefully a bye into the quarterfinals on Sunday.

A&M came in seeded #2 (they have some nationally renowned all stars who I've had the pleasure of playing with and are really good guys) were upset by #7 UCF and finished today 1-1.

(Funnily enough, A&Ms captain this year is the brother of UT Co captain from last year)

Melee (Women's) finished today 1-1, but upset #3 UCLA! Last two pool play games tomorrow and we'll see where they go from there!

Nationals Day 2 update:

TUFF started the day by upsetting #1 Pitt 13-12 in double game point!! This guaranteed us the top seed in the pool and a bye into the quarterfinals tomorrow regardless of the result of our final pool game (lost 15-11 to #17 Auburn). We start tomorrow in the quarterfinals against a very talented #15 Oregon team (lost in NC final last year and still features 5th year senior 2013 Callahan award winner). If we win, semifinal match is live on ESPN3 at 5:30pm.

#2 Texas A&M unfortunately lost in the round of 16 to #6 Florida State and their season is over.

Melee:

After upsetting #3 UCLA yesterday, the ladies continued their surprising hot streak by defeating #15 Pitt. They had a tough time in the final pool game and lost to #6 Carleton College. This placed them 3rd in the pool (predicted to finish 5th out of 5) and earned them a round of 16 match against #7 Dartmouth. Unfortunately, we couldn't get the result we needed, and Melee's season ends after a well earned and fought for spot in the final 16.

Hook 'Em!!!

Nationals Day 3 update:

TUFF started the day against a very tough #15 Oregon, and, unfortunately, that's where our Cinderella run ended by the score 15-9. Oregon overcame a very sloppy first 2 days to beat Texas today, then they went on to win their semifinal matchup against #6 Florida State and will be playing in the NC final against #3 North Carolina. Final is live on ESPN 3 at 2:30 pm (following the Women's final)

Hook 'Em!!
