2015 Recruiting Season is in full swing

There's 17 more days till NSD, there would be something wrong if we don't have a TE/special teams coach by then.
Not having a TE coach (or effectively not having one) did not affect winning over Clarington.

And as we are now done at TE, then the answer must be no,

(unless LSU were to steal him)

But it would not hurt to have one more ace recruiter on staff right now

One of the Rivals 247 guys said that, because of numbers^, they now expect Burt to re-commit to Texas

Their primary WR target is Ryan Davis
My question is if Newsome commits to UT this week, do we take Burt and two WR's. I'd rather we take one WR and at least two of the three RB's. I'd like to take all three RB's, but with our numbers that may hard to do. Although, we seem to have more room for recruits lately.

I hold out hope Lodge or Strickland pop up next weekend.

But Burt is a dynamic player -- check out some of the BON stuff on him.  Westcott loves Burt

We have room now.

This WR Davis did his OV to Auburn this weekend and the report is it went very good

So we may get to quickly see if and how this is going to affect Burt

Yep. If a WR commits that might be the end game for Burt in terms of Auburn.

The same thing might actually apply to Davis. If a CB commits to Auburn that might be it for Davis too. Davis isn't visiting until the 30th correct? That's a long way away.

We want some of these big names to start committing to Auburn.

LotusHorn thinks we picked up 2 recruits

He has some cred as a poster, but says it a guess that its a RB & a DB

Jeff Howe did CB Brossette to Texas

Word is one of the commits needs to talk to LSU coaches first

Things went well with Hill and Boyd too

Apparently we are recruiting him as a WR/ATH

And he is supposed to be fine with that
I'm assuming because we are also hoping for a Brossette and Warren commitment.

Would we really want another WR with Burt and Newsome and WR heavy class last year?

I don't think the staff knows what they want to do with Soso yet. Soso still has more physical development in front of him which could impact where he ends up. Soso is the definition of an "athlete" offer IMO. No clue where he's going to play but he's a freaking gifted athlete that can be productive somewhere.

If we get Hill & Boyd and keep Davis, I think we will take one of these guys

If we land Hill & Boyd but lose Davis, then two

What do you guys think?

4-star CB Mark Fields (5'10,175) William Amos Hough (NC) - his current leader is Clemson and the CB is 80% Clemson.  Coach Vaughn had an in-home visit with Fields last Thursday, and Fields will be in Austin next weekend Jan. 23.  We offered in Oct.

3-star CB DeAndre Baker (6'0,175) of Miami Northwestern --  current Georgia commit.  His OV was originally set for Jan 31, but it appears we moved it up to Jan 23.  Higs says the key to look for is if his pops comes with him (to judge his seriousness).  We offered back in Aug.  And Uncle Luke said Baker was one of the top 3 CBs in Miami this year, so there's that too.

3-star CB Sheldrick Redwine (61,185), of Miami Killian - current Louisville commit.  He actually visited Auburn with Irvin.  Has OV to Texas Jan. 31.  We offered in Oct.  He is a good player, not afraid of contact, good hands, returns punts.

4-star CB Xavier Lewis (5'11,188) of East Saint John (Louisiana) -- current LSU commit, but will take an OV to Austin on Jan. 31.  Kind of similar situation as Brossette as a LA player committed to LSU (so getting one might help with the other).  He's a very good corner who has not gotten that much attention from UT fans.  We offered last Feb.  Coach Vaughn went to see him in Dec.

Agree

I'm not worried about DBs, we will land good players at that position. I'm more interested to see what happens at RB, WR OL and DT.

We are currently at 24 commits (23 technically since Merrick is a grey shirt). Let's say Major doesn't qualify and Davis jumps ship that leaves us at 21 commits (meaning we would have 10 scholarships).

DB:

Holton Hill, Kris Boyd, Xavier Lewis, Mark Fields, Ronnie Hoggins, and Sheldrick Redwine.

RB:

Chris Warren, Nicholas Brossette, and Soso Jamabo

WR:

Ryan Newsome, John Burt and Carlos Strickland.

QB:

Kai Locksley

DT:

Kevin Scott

I think we land 7 or 8 out of that group. If I were nitpicking I hope we go after another offensive lineman and/or defensive tackle. Some random name will pop up before national signing day, I hope it's on the offensive lineman or defensive tackle.
The ten I would like.

Locksley

Warren

Brossette

Soso

Burt

Richmond

Scott

Hill

Boyd

Fields

I think you have to look at taking Newsome as filling the role of Irvin. Newsome will primarily be an asset in the Return Game, which would have been held by Irvin had he not decommitted. Outside of that, you'll see Newsome in the slot. This is why I'm fine with Texas taking multiple receivers this year. It's likely that none of the other receivers we'll take, will play the slot. Johnson and Burt are both outside/down field threats. Jamabo may get some time in the slot if he were to come to TX and play receiver but that's really it.

I'm loving all of the good news coming from Brossette's visit. I've been clamoring for half a year now about him being my favorite back in this class. I think he's the full package and he could be a serious relief for whatever learning Quarterback we have under center. If you think about it, Strong and Watson are actually playing this recruiting class quite brilliantly. No, it doesn't appear that you're recruiting or receiving a transfer from a day one starter. However, with all of the offensive threats he's going to be surrounded with, it would be hard for even the most average Quarterback not to find some success.
