Burnt Ends (1-12)

I honestly hoped you wouldn't pick back up with your sophistry and evasion.

Now siting specific lines and discussing them is "evasion". . . . .you are nothing if not consistent. .  .personal attack. . .the last refuge of a scoundrel. . . .

As for "sophistry". . .you are projecting son.  . . ..I'm not the one trying to obscure the truth with you incessant agenda mongering. . .

Not unlike you last round of dishonest and illogical strawman building. . . .which would make your use of the word "sophistry" ironic. . .if you actually understand what it means. . .. .  .

A classic example of sophistry is your response on the financing of the replacement for the Erwin Center. Public money, my friend. Public money. Taxpayer subsidies. The need to build a replacement facility is well understood. The reason for taxpayer funds to be dedicated to subsidizing UT athletics isn't. I guess you missed that point. Public money. Taxpayer subsidies. Public welfare for a seemingly bloated and wasteful university athletics department that has unneeded six-figure salaries on the payroll for no other reason than the employees are high school buddies with a university regent.

I promise. . .my last comment. . . .you honestly are not worth it and your arrogance is humorous in light of how little you understand finance and economics. . . .

Your use of the word "sophistry" is ironic and a classic case of projection.  . . .

The taxpayers of Texas and Austin will subsidize a special events center for multiple reasons . . . most importantly.because in the end, the event center will raise more tax revenue than it costs. . .just like the Erwin Center did. . . it will bring conventions, events and concerts to the city which fill hotel rooms and restaurants.  Another fact you don't get, these events will generate more tax revenue than the bonds cost to fund the building. . .thus they will help drive Austin's economic engine.

That you lack the intelligence to understand that whether the athletic dept is full of waste or lean and mean had NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with the need to fund a basketball/special events center.. . . well that is the RD we have come to know and expect.

As you said "seemingly bloated'. . .thanks for finally being honest enough to indirectly admit this is nothing but your opinion. . . .an opinion driven by over wrought emotions which seem more the function of the explosion of an adolescent in puberty and the accompanying hormonal imbalances than a supposed TEXAS grad and rational adult. . . ..

Sorry, your absence from the board after you were caught spewing your last round of distortions of the truth was a welcome respite. . . .and your posting style fits much better at shaggy bevo with the bevis and butt head crowd. . . but hey, you could leave here for there and improve the IQ of 2 sites at once. . .

;)

Hey guys, I know both of you and know that you're both stand up guys. Under different circumstances, I think you two would actually get along pretty well.

If you're both open to suggestion here, I would recommend that you keep the condescending aspect out of it. Make your points and support your points cleanly. You're both very smart individuals and offer unique perspectives. Just hate to see the valuable stuff get lost in the trash.

Carry on.

We are not going to let this thread plunge any further into a personal back & forth between posters. You've each said your piece on the matter (and each other) - let it go.

There are a ton of things in the report to discuss....

(Don't respond to this. It just turns into a he said/she said game, and doesn't help.)

Wow. Just wow. And, for the record, i turned my back on the board because I was tired of the gutter level of discussion and outright lies you contributed. I came back after a conversation with Aaron. Obviously, he didn't look at my absence as you did. Quelle surprise.

I couldn't resist, sorry. :)

Sorry Mark,

I have zero respect for people who are so patently dishonest. . . . . and for the constant pattern of personal attack. . . .

As far as finances - here is a couple of tidbits from an admittedly ignorant poster - me.

The buyout of Mack and his coaches were handled, behind the scenes and in conjunction with the Foundation, with the pocket change of a couple of BMD's.  It wouldn't be reported and thusly invisible to the AAU.  That's one.

The other is the opinion that UT is bloated and "out of control".  Bloated is true - name me one state university, that is politically connected, that isn't.  Out of control is untrue.  The university has the paper trails to prove it.

Finally, it has been reported that plans are already in place (as Matt reported) for a new athletic facility that will be obscenely luxurious and opulent.  NFL teams will trade their souls for this - I am told.  This in addition to a new dormitory (luxury condos would better describe it) for athletes, bowling ally, IMAX, and concessions serviced by a well known cafeteria and fast food restaurants.  These are real plans.  The BB arena is a Patterson stroke of genius, whereby he gets the city and county to put their feet into the fire and pony up partnership monies for a state of the art arena that compares favorably with the old Summit in Houston.  The projections are it will pay for itself in 3 years.

Patterson knows what the hell he is doing and these kinds of ideas are one of the things that helped sell the powers that be on hiring him.  He has a track record to prove it, as well.

So you guys that are fretting and worrying about our beloved university need to tap the brakes a little.  Our school is going international and will soar to heights that no college in America has dreamed about.  We have the money and we have the city, county. state and the BMD's support.  It's all good.

Relax and just let it all unfold.

Hook 'em!

You just fired me up enough to go form tackle somebody. Now you tell me to relax? lol
LOL!  Remember, this is coming from a poster that is just reporting rumors. I really can't guarantee any of it - just something I idly overheard once.

Oh yea, just internet rumor. Well, you know if it's on the internet, it has to be true.

Burnt Ends or HS Mod . ..

  • "Despite recent public statements that he does not plan to attend UT for an official visit, we heard from at least one source that, contrary to that statement, the Texas staff still believes Daylon Mack will visit Austin before signing day."
This from you in this report, but today Mike posted that Daylon Mack will not end up at Texas.

What gives? Is HS just of a different opinion than staff? Lets face it, if Mack actually makes a visit to Austin, thats a game changer.

Does anybody have a clue as to where the new ATX arena will be built?

I hope it isn't too far from campus. We already have a difficult time getting students into the Drum. Yeah, I know we're between semesters.

Is this still accurate or are we done with Mack forsure

It was still accurate yesterday afternoon. We'll check on it tomorrow.

Last I heard the location is still up in the air.

There is a tug of war going on, city wants it to be as big or bigger while some want it smaller to make for a better basketball arena . ..
