2015 Recruiting Season is in full swing

Any chance of us adding a qb or two?

Things are looking good for getting current FSU QB commit Kai Locksley, a 4 star recruit out of Maryland. Apparently he and Watson talk quite a bit. This all according to OB.
He's looking like the best chance we have right now. So far we have Swoopes, Heard, Gentry and a grey-shirt Merrick if we get Locksley that will probably be it for the year

Locksley would be a good pick up. I really like the look of Gentry, but the concern with him is the level of competition is relatively low. We need as many options as possible to have a chance for one to truly be "the guy".

Locksley has said what is intriguing to him is the chance to play early. His dad coaches at Maryland so they are always an option as well. His dad and Strong are said to be friends as well.

It’s interesting that Strickland wants to take a visit to Texas. Both Strickland and Wheeler are Skyline boys. Does Strickland think Wheeler is heading to Texas? Strickland is a very good WR and is a definite take. Not sure there will be room though if that’s an option (nor do I think WR is a huge need).

Sounds like the Florida five are coming.  I’m pretty sure they’ve all been silent commits for a while.  Poor Cherry just couldn’t keep it under the radar.

Hill’s top 3 are very interesting. I thought for sure this was a Texas vs Baylor battle. I don’t think LSU is a major player with Chavis gone.  I’m not sure Bama has even been recruiting Hill that hard. IMO we are in good shape for Hill. It was a shocker to not see Baylor in his top 3.

If I had to guess on the "surprise commit" from Higdon I would go with Locksley.

Don't remember, has Locksley had a visit here?

I expect a decommit at that position and getting Strickland would be a push, IMO, with Burt.

I look at our WR corps and disagree. We need more talent there. Give me Newsome and Strickland and shut it down.

If Locksley is in the mix, then maybe his dad is too. Otherwise  I don't see it since his dad is OC at Maryland.

I do not understand the Merrick deal. I hear he is a huge project and throws picks like a mug in private school league. Why do we offer him when there are so many other QBs who are not huge projects and play in the big leagues, and can see we NEED a QB ? We have Swoopes and Vinklarik and  Heard and Gentry....Why do we need a fifth guy who is a project ?

His dad is OC at Maryland, yet he is currently a FSU commit. So I don't think where his dad is, is a deal breaker at all.

If he committed to Fsu and his dad is still the OC and Maryland, i don't think its a package deal. Im sure ideally they would love. CS isn't the type of coach that will hire his dad just to get him.

His dad is comfy where he is. He is good friends with Charlie and knows his boy would be taken care of.

Otherwise, you have forced yourself to think FSU was going to fire their OC and hire Kai's dad - none of which is true.

Merrick is a grey shirt, meaning, scholarship next year. Charlie is looking for competition, not to use Merrick any time soon.

Locksley is not a project.

Could not disagree more about our WR needs. We desperately need playmakers and big body, my-ball mentality players.
There is a chance we might get some attrition from 1-2 current WRs on scholarship. Just a speculation. If more are coming and 2 studs in 2016 that should play right away, some current guys will be buried.

Kai did visit here, with his Dad. I'm not betting the farm on it, but almost certain. In fact, there is a picture floating around that I believe was taken at Under the Lights.

Check that attendance list. Think Juan put one in the thread.

We need playmakers, but it's a numbers game. It's all dependent on if Burt stays committed. If we land Burt, Newsome and Johnson that's 3 WRs. There's really no need to be taking 4 WRs this class after we took so many last class (especially based on our offense). Unless we are planning to make a move to the spread or if we lose Burt, we probably shouldn't take Strickland. If there's room in the class that's fine, but a 4th WR should not be prioritized over a DB, LB, DT, QB, OL and even RB in this class.

Yes, Kai and his dad were here this summer at the 'Under the Lights' camp. According to ESPN Kai was very impressive and got a lot of personal attention from Strong, Watson, and the rest of the Texas staff.

Kai isn't as developed a passer as I'd hope for (to be a sure-fire starter next season), but he's a more developed passer than Heard was coming out of high school and is a tremendous athlete. He might not have the experience Strong and Warson want, but he'd definitely add competition.

Well maybe it's time to ask Burt if he is in or out. I would hate to lose to Strickland for getting slow played and not get Burt either.

I tend to agree with you on this issue.  If we knew how this class was going to pan out and the momentum we we obtain, then this class would have been put together differently.  But we didn't and we are where we are now.

I liked last year's WR class alot. So, I dont fear the loss of Burt as much as some do.  He's a great talent, but we can survive his defection.  I also have a big thing for tall, basketball player-WRs.  We managed to keep Gray and Leonard in the class last year but lost another.  Still, I think this is our one blind spot with the WR corp.  Because of this, I am pro-Strickland, who is listed at 6'5 (I posted some highlight film above on him).  So, lose Burt, add Strickland and then shutdown WR recruiting.  Save those precious extra spots for DL or QB.  Hypothetically, if we lost Burt, added Strickland and then had only one spot left for either Lodge or Locksley, I would go Locksley (even though Lodge is a beast).

edit -- Gilbert Johnson likes us alot and is also listed at 6'4 and so can fill this role.  I, of course, would prefer to double up here.  Johnson is a guy who committed to Georgia out of high school but then did not make the grades and Georgia saw that he enrolled in a Prep School this past year.  One of the recruit gurus said he was more talented than some of the 5-star guys, but called him a 4-star talent with a 2-star brain.  Thus, to me, the smart way to go is to grab Strickland too if possible.

I really am not worried about WR at all. I truly think that we have some incredible playmakers already on the Roster we just don't have any big guys or Qb so we weren't able to properly showcase there talents. Winning always starts at the line of scrimmage and the qb position.
