The question in Charlie Strong’s mind does not appear to be whether he should burn Jerrod Heard's redshirt at quarterback if Tyrone Swoopes continues to struggle. But rather can Heard close the gap on Swoopes as a passer?
 
I'm told Heard is so far behind Swoopes as a passer that there could be real questions about if Heard will be able to play quarterback at the DI level unless he improves in that area by leaps and bounds.

Couple of thoughts.

1. Heard is a true Frosh. He came in as the #3 guy and the plan was for him to learn on the sidelines, before the Ash injury. The staff is working with him, but he has a long way to go to learn a college offense.

While I think the coach gave a fair assessment of Heard (with what he said), there's so much he left out that is highly relative to the discussion. Having seen Heard a couple of times in HS, what struck me were a couple of things:

1. His most lethal passes seem to come when he's on the run or when a play is busted. Because he's such a run threat, defenses have to respect his legs. But what makes him deadly is his accuracy while throwing on the run. Some of the most successful plays I saw were busted plays. He improvises extremely well.

2. He's a thinking man's QB. Makes good decisions. Personally, I've never liked throwing an out pattern to the opposite side of the field. Let him play within himself and let the talents in his noggin take over.

3. Field presence. Commands respect in the huddle. Does not get rattled after a mistake. Calm, cool, collected.

I like him, a lot. I think he's the biggest recruit we've had for a while. I hear all the nice things said about Swoopes. Well, lets see it translate to the scoreboard or take a flyer on Heard.

i am a premium member of scout.  i also have no problems with following the golden rules as per attribution.... there is a dedicated link involved.  i simply harbor no problem with helping our HS stalwarts stay abreast as per the latest and greatest information / insight.  additionally, as a scout stalwart, i can assure you that members post in attribution from other sites all the time.  information is key... as well as universal.

1, 2 and 3 perfectly describe what we need right now at this very moment... With number 3 being one of the biggest. The first two being key given the OLine issues that we have had. 

I really hope your assessment is the more accurate of the two... Your feelings have been corroborated many times over via different articles and reports. The report that kicked of this thread seems to be out of left field. 

If things don't progress at all with Swoopes this week I would really like to see what Heard brings to the table... Nobody wants to see the dumpster fire rage on.

now this is mark that i know!  this post is perfectly articulated, and filled with heart!  i feel that exact same way... absolutely!  coach strong needs to start thinking about an added dimension.  citizens of TEXAS know football...

a dedicated link as per attribution, WAS INDEED PROVIDED!  scout, does have their security measures in place (this is not the first time, trust me)  however, like i said, our stalwarts at scout provide premium content from other sites all the time.  i have NEVER referenced chip brown jumping down anyone's throats regarding properly attributed content.  i harbor no problems bringing forth top flight information to our HS stalwarts, so that they can stay abreast of premium content.  however, should you continue to harbor a problem with it... please take it up with the judge!

Heard doesn't have as strong an arm as swoopes. Therefore he doesn't look great right now running watson offense.

What he is good at is accuracy and keeping plays alive outside the pocket. Kinda like a former horn I know.
