Let's talk DBU against the Sooners....

Since August I've said that Texas matches up better against OU than they did against Baylor. Even after the performance against Baylor, I still believe it to be true.

Bedford has been running a lot of 4-2-5 with both Haines & Hall on the field (and Mykkele Thompson out wide in coverage). The key difference in BU vs OU's attack for Saturday is that the Sooners swap out a WR for Blake Bell (or the FB).

I expect Texas to provide help over the top on Sterling Shepard in an effort to limit OU's big play potential. With Hall drawing Bell in coverage (a matchup I think favors Texas), that leaves Haines to play run support.

In an effort to confuse Petty, Texas rotated Hall heavily right before the snap (resulting in Hall playing the deep zone). This shift changes the responsibilities above, so it will be interesting to see if Bedford sticks with it.

Good info.

With OU being a better run team than a pass team, do you think we will move from a 4-2-5 to add an extra LB in a 4-3-4 in attempt to key on the run?

Bedford likes the ability to disguise & change looks with the nickel package. I expect the Horns will try to contain the run with it first and not to switch to a 4-3 unless they're getting gouged.

Bringing an extra LB on to stop the run allows Knight to audible out of a play and make a quick throw. I haven't seen enough from the Texas LB'ers in pass coverage to make me think that's a good option.

The 3-3-5 look with Bluiett as a rush LB is something I think we'll see on 1st & 2nd down before the 4-3.

Good analyses, Matt. We do match up better against OU than Baylor. If our kids can shake off the loss to Baylor and play like they did, we have a chance. But with a young team that can be so inconsistent at times, anything can happen.

But OU will still suck.

i'm going to have a similar Wednesday thought. Just a headsup, so y'all can look for it.
STP, I think we attended UT approximately the same years.  If you have a copy of the "Cactus" student yearbook for the

year 1976 - 1977, refer to the sports section.  On page one it's all about "DKR Retires" as you might expect.  On page two

is a picture from the Texas/OU game of a student hanging over the railing, giving the "Hook 'em".  The caption simply reads

"a UT fan".  That pic is of yours truly, that's me...I had tickets on the 50 yard line, sitting right next to the Longhorn Band.

Proudly wearing an "OU SUX" tee shirt!

And Trevor Knight isn't playing lights out compared to the Alabama game. We have a good shot. But OU's DL vs our OL scares me. Praying for better execution and the rain gods bouncing balls our way!

Etex...we're close, anyway. I entered as a freshman Fall of '77.

Undefeated season, my first ou game to see in person, a total beatdown in college station and a Heisman trophy for Earl. Combine that with a legal drinking age of 18-years old. Whatever slim hope i had of graduating with honors, was delat a fatal blow in Semester I.

If Texas can get pressure on Knight he will throw the ball to our DBs and LBs. He's easily rattled.

The key IMO is containing Shepard. Most OU fans will even tell you that he's really there only threat right now at WR. If you can slow down Shepard that offense becomes one dimensional.
