UT offensive lineman considering transfer

Orangebloods.com has learned from multiple sources that redshirt freshman Rami Hammad has told multiple people within the UT program that he intends to transfer. 

Per our sources, Hammad, out of Irving High School, on Sunday told people on the team and others within the program that he will leave the Texas program in search of new opportunities. 

Hammad redshirted in 2013. A spokesperson for UT could not directly confirm the news and it's possible that Hammad could have a change of heart, but he told people close to him directly on Sunday that he has decided to transfer and word had been circulated among those in the football department.

When a new head coach takes over a program, like Charlie Strong did at Texas, existing players on the roster can view the move in one of two ways. They can either be a part of the solution or part of the problem.

Former four-star recruit Rami Hammad has apparently taken the latter course. Hammad didn’t embrace a fresh start and instead struggled to make an impression with the new coaching staff. As a result, he reportedly doesn’t see a future for himself in Austin, Texas.

According to Orangebloods.com, Hammand has decided to leave the Texas Longhorns and transfer to another program.

Hammand was never able to crack the team’s rotation at guard with juniorSedrick Flowers entrenched on the left side, while sophomore more Kent Perkins and junior Taylor Doyle competed to start at right guard.

With Hammad’s intentions being made public, the Longhorns have lost 12 players to dismissals, suspensions or transfers since Strong took over the program.

Prior to signing with the Longhorns, Hammad verbally committed to the Oklahoma Sooners and the Baylor Bears. The offensive lineman also had scholarship offers from the Arizona Wildcats, Arizona State Sun Devils, Arkansas Razorbacks, Duke Blue Devils, Iowa Hawkeyes, Kansas State Wildcats, LSU Tigers, Michigan State Spartans, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Oklahoma Sooners, Texas A&M Aggies, UCLA Bruins and Washington Huskies.

One team not mentioned which may be of interest to Hammad is the Virginia Tech Hokies. Hammad’s former offensive line coach at Texas, Stacy Searels, is now serving in the same capacity as part of Frank Beamer‘s staff.

If Hammad decides to attend another FBS school, he’ll have to sit out this season due to NCAA transfer rules.

Probably best for both parties. Hammad has been 3rd on the depth chart behind Perkins and Doyle at RG. For some reason Wickline never liked Hammad's game.

Hammad originally committed to Oklahoma State when Wickline was there (and apparently Wick liked him then). But then decomitted from Ok State and said Baylor. Then decommitted from Baylor and signed with Horns. 

Based upon the recruitment history, it appears he's not the most stable guy out there.

Are there a lot of Muslim football players out there? I am just curious, because it seems like Ramadan would be a difficult thing for a football player to go through from a conditioning standpoint.
