The SEC thread

They should go for the whole enchilada and make it 64 teams in the playoffs. They can call it Winter Madness. The Championship game can be called the NIL Bowl. The NIL Bowl can be scheduled the week before the start of March Madness. {Sarcasm]

No, I don't work for the Babylon Bee. 😉

If our 3 rivalry games are ou, aggy and arky, then we would presumably have to play one of aggy and arky at home each year. Since both those games are home games in 2025, we would need to play one of those 2 games at home for both 2025 and 2026. After aggy made such a fuss about the first SEC game being in college station, even though the previous match up was also in college Station, it would be reasonable and awesome for aggy to play in Austin in 2026, and be sure to piss them off.

Unfortunately the conference may be more likely to have arky play in Austin in 2026, since they wouldn't implode and would be relieved to get the anual match up with Texas

You do. I love the diversity with an eight game OOC schedule. One big dog, two pusses and a mid major.
I don't think we will really miss one of those OOC matchups each year - heck, for Texas this is a reversion back to 2023 scheduling. Are you going to be bummed we don't play teams like San Jose State or ULM in the future?

According to this article Texas 3 anual rivalry games is as expected ou, aggy and arky. If the 3 Texas anual games are decided, then presumably all of the anual rivalries are decided, but there is no mention of that in the article.

In addition the article confirms that the SEC schedule will be a 3-6-6 model, which seems awesome to me.

Even Saban saw the value in those games.

SEC is a brutal schedule. We already have one OOC game with a top team each year. Why not have those 2 or 3 games to hone their skills for the grind without really getting nicked up?

One factor most don't think of . . . the smaller schools count on the revenue from these games with big time programs. It is why so often see these games played in Austin, where the revenue is considerably larger than it would be for them in a home game. We're cutting them off from that.

Yes, we are going back to 2 games to continue serving that purpose. I don't think we need 3 and I know for sure some of the SEC teams that schedule 4 cupcakes don't need 4 of these types of games.

I do think we see Texas schedule two state of Texas schools (UTSA, Texas State, Rice, Sam Houston, etc) and then 1 major brand for our power 4 matchup.

Itll be interesting to see if we ever schedule a Texas Big 12 school.

Between the 9 conference gwmes, the CCG and the expanded playoffs, the schedules going forward are obviously going to more grueling. That definitely has advantages and disadvantages, like it or not that's where we have arrived.

As far as Sabin. He definitely tried to optimize everything. Perhaps having a third cup cake game gave the team better odds of coming out on top, then having two. But if everyone has only 2 cup cake games, then it's not a competetive advantage/disadvantage.

If we are really worried about the programs not getting a payday for being an additional warm up game, we could take a small part of the extra revenue from the extra 1/2 conference games and send it to them. That's obviously not likely to happen.

I'd be down with that. Always gotta help the little guy. Football should maintain for everyone and even expand, not be a program killer due to greed from the top feeders.

This is a way down the road possibility.

The power 4 is basically a super league, think NFL equivalent. The smaller schools are basically minor leagues. Texas has contracts with Texas State, UTSA, etc with multi millions in payouts to these schools to serve as developmental feeder programs for the Longhorns.

That's the only downside I see to this. I'm all for better football games, but those schools do use that big paycheck for their athletic programs.

Nah, lets add them. I want to pound those tortilla throwing idiots into the ground to occasionally remind them who daddy is.

Its a lose-lose proposition for us. And it's more fun to just deny them the opportunity.
